I've been a Corel Graphics Suite user from versions 7 to X3, and - after trialing PSP X2 - found it as a great replacement/improvement for PhotoPaint.
I have been using the trial on my Win XP Pro 32 bit machine & it works great. I decided to purchase & install on my Win XP Pro 64 bit machine (which is in my profile). It functions fine - with only one exception that I've noticed so far. The dropper tool & the magnifier display the RGB values correctly, but the color square stays black. Since it functions OK on the 32 bit PC, I'm assuming that there may me an issue with 64 bit OS's.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
One more note:
I called support & was informed that PSP was not guaranteed to function properly on 64 bit systems. The tech asked me what version I had, which is 12.00. He stated that there is an updated version, but when I checked for updates from the help menu, it states that no updates are available.

Corel's Check for Updates is notoriously flakey - and to some extent so is PSPX2TBoyd wrote:I've been a Corel Graphics Suite user from versions 7 to X3, and - after trialing PSP X2 - found it as a great replacement/improvement for PhotoPaint.

Some people reported having more problems when they installed the patch for v.12 and ended up uninstalling it. For others, it seems to work fine.

Found Update
I located the update to version 12.01 & installed it in the 64 bit PC, but the same problem exists. I also noticed that when using the effects browser, the thumbnail previews are all black. Yet when I apply the effect, it is correctly applied to the image. I just can't preview the effect with the thumbnails in the browser.
I'm disappointed that PSP isn't totally functional with 64 bit systems. It also seems apparent that PSP doesn't recognize or utilize the power of dual procesors, because there is no difference in speed/performance of PSP running in a 32 bit single processor PC & versus a 64 bit dual processor PC.

Re: Found Update
No, PSP does not take advantage of multi-core machines. And I'm afraid I can't help you with the other issues because I use PSP9. Maybe somebody else will come along with some suggestions.TBoyd wrote:I located the update to version 12.01 & installed it in the 64 bit PC, but the same problem exists. Breakthrough!
I refused to give up on this issue of the dropper tool, magnification tool & previews of effects not working.
I turned off color management in PSP X2 & that resolved the problem! Go figure.

Re: Breakthrough!
A lucky turn of events in the end. Only graphics programs (and only some of them) on your computer use color management, not your web browser or news reader or email client, etc. So if you want things in PSP to look the way they will when you post them or email them or put them on a website, then you should have color management off.TBoyd wrote:I refused to give up on this issue of the dropper tool, magnification tool & previews of effects not working.
