Post by eddiedunc »

Since reinstalling Video studio 11 on my computer (O/S Vista Home) I cannot create a Disc as it it does not recocognize either of my DVD-RW drives. I have another video editing programme which recognizes them both. Can anyone help please?

My VS11.5 cannot see either of my two burners, though only for the purpose of burning an AVCHD hybrid disc to standard DVD. For other purposes, it sees the burners, as do other programs. VS11.5 on my Core 2 Duo laptop, for exactly the same purpose, has no trouble seeing its own burner... I am still working on it...

Welcome Eddie,
I do not burn my output DVD direct to DVD using VS instead choosing to Create DVD folders (untick 'Create to disk' and tick 'Create DVD folders').
This creates the folders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS which you can then burn to DVD using your favourite DVD burning software. This (apparently) also corrects some other problems some people have had.

Video Sutio 11.5 sucks
it doesn't detect my DVD writer, also when I try to create the DVD folders on the computer hard disk so I burn them with another burning SW, it gives me every time "Unspecified error". Ulead DVD workshop works definitly better and is more powerfull despite being a lot older.

I've never used VS for a real project (I prefer MSP!) but I was intrigued by your complaints as I imagined that all the Ulead burning apps used similar engines. I therefore created a mini-project entirely within VS, including burning to a DVD+RW. After taking in some files, I created menus and went straight to "Share" and, selecting disc, I let it burn it without the slightest problem.

I know this doesn't help you guys solve your problems any, but I'm satisfied that there is no basic bug, at least with burning a straightforward DVD, which played perfectly, BTW!

Make sure you don't have packet writing software that "takes over" your DVD drive. Apps such as Nero InCD or Roxio EZ CD Creator need to be uninstalled or disabled.

Make sure your burner has the latest firmware installed!

I recently had a problem of not being able to get to the burn window. I could set up my menu and preview the video just fine, but when I clicked Next to move onto the burn window the program would just hang and I had to Ctl-Alt-Del to get out of it.

About a week ago I discovered the my Roxio EZ CD Creator was not working. I reinstalled it, but forgot to disable the DirectCD function (packet writer). So I thought this was preventing VS from recognizing my DVD burner, and thus, not allowing me to get to the burn window. I uninstalled the DirectCD, but still had the same problem.

I finally ended up doing a clean uninstall and reinstall of my VS10+ and everything now works. Now I have to find out what corrupted my Roxio and VS, as both crapped out at about the same time.
