Hi,
I am currently editing a film and have had to overlay images in order to paint out the boom mic which sometimes appears at the top of the screen.
However, I have applied the duotone attribute to my footage and I am unable to recolour my overlay image to match the duotone colouring. Even when I take a still image, the duotone effect is not visible.
Any suggestions?? (much appreciated)

Welcome,
It seems that you cannot apply a video filter (attribute) to a clip on the overlay track HOWEVER if you FIRSTLY place the clip (which you intend to use as an overlay) on the VIDEO TRACK then apply the DUOTONE attribute, make any necessary CUSTOMIZation then DRAG that clip from the video track onto the overlay track you will see that the attribute is still there.
Magic? Not sure.

Yes you can apply video filters to clips (images and video) in the overlay tracks.
Here is an example of an image taken from the clip in the main video track, before applying the DuoTone filter. The filter was then applied to the video clip in the main video track. Next I dropped the image into the overlay track, and applied the same DuoTone filter.

When customize or alter some of the filters, especially ones affecting colors, it may be difficult to get the colors to blend or match. I would suggest using the Customize option to check that the color values are the same or as close as possible.
In the Customize dialog for the Duotone filter, clicking on one of the color boxes will open a Color Picker, either Ulead, or Windows. Use the Ulead color picker to see the color values (RGB, HSB, and Hex). Check them to see if they are the same..

Ron,
How do you apply video filters to clips in the overlay track? When I click the 'Attributes' tab nothing happens (when I do the same to a clip in the video track the video filters 'library' opens). The only options I am presented with are Mask & Chroma Key, and enter/exit direction although the 'Replace last filter' check box is there (strange). Or are you using version 11 (I am talking about version 10+). The author did not state what version they use so I based my reply on version 10+.
I am though able to apply a video filter to a video clip/still by firstly dropping it onto the video track, applying the filter and then dragging that clip (from the video track) to the overlay track.
