V10 project settings

Post by parky »

I have Version 10, and previously version 7. (I know I am a bit out of date). I have recently develpoed problems with a jumpy picture on the final DVD when the video was panning. This was not evident after capture, or in the video file produced by "share/ create video file".

I always capture from DV using DV Type 1. Clip Properties always show as Microsoft AVI, 25 frames per second

I have never been confident about settings, so I read through Vidomans tutorial and changed a few things. This threw up a couple of questions.

1. In Project properties, if I change from MPEG to Microsoft AVI, it also changes from PAL(25fps) to NTSC (29.97fps). I cannot change this (I am in Europe) as I do not have a "compression" tab as shown in the tutorial, or anywhere else that I can find to change this setting.

PAL is selected in the preferences tab.

2. When I go to "share/create video file", which I normally do rather than going straight to burn, I usually select "same as project settings". Is this correct, or sould I select PAL DVD as that will be my final output mode?

I hope this makes sense

Hi Joy

From File-preferences ¡Vset Show messages when inserting first video¡X

This should change your project properties to match when inserting the first video, or after capture.

If you use Dv-Avi then after editing you create a new video file.
Share create video file
Use Pal-DVD for project up to 60 minutes, if the project is longer the bit-rate has to be reduced. Now I would use Make Movie Manager to create a new template.

Please read my Quick Guide to DV- Avi

Hope this Helps.

Ps I do not understand the conflict with Pal and Ntsc, although it can be a little confusing when the program seems to be Ntcc based.

Oh

The jumpy video is usually a frame order problem. Using Upper instead of Lower Field.
This may occur if you render/create the video file to the wrong settings.
You should use Lower for digital capture, providing its not high definition.

Sort out your workflow and you should be ok.
