Video Studio 11 upgrade to 11.5

Post by johnevans4 »

Hello people I had VS 11 and saw that there was a free upgrade to 11.5 so I went for it . Everything went smoothly and the upgrade loaded , but when I started the program it seemed to take some time and then a box with a line moving along it came in the middle of the screen ,then the windows error box appeared and told me that windows had encountered an problem and would I like to send an error report . Then when I tried the program again evryting seemed to work OK (I haven't tried editing with it) and if I look at about VS it has upgraded to VS11.5 . So have I got a problem or is it all smoke and mirrors.

If you have looked at ? > About VS, then do so again. The version number should be 11.5.0157.2. If you have the 5, that indicates the Power Pack update was successful. If you don't have the 2 on the end, then you have to install also the the 6 November 2007 patch which is below the Power Pack on the Ulead.com update page.

Hello Ken .

I found that file and loaded it and again everything seemed to go smoothly then when I ran VS editor the same thing happened there was asome disc activity and the the progress box appeared on the screen and after about 5 seconds the +microsoft error box appeared telling me that xp had a problem with VS and did I want to send an error report . Then when I ran VS again it all seemed to go OK as far as I can tell .Anyway there is now a 2 where there was a 1 at the end as you said .There appear to be three upgrade files a hotfix a powerpack and the update file you reffered to and it doesn't seem to say what order they should be installed in .So I did the hofix first then the powerpack and now the update. .

Well, if you looked at the their dates, you would have seen that they started at the bottom first! And if you had read the notes to each of them, explaining what they were meant to do, you would have seen that you shouldn't have installed the top 'Hot Fix' at all. It was meant to cover one and only one problem during installation of the main program, and you obviously did not have that one since that problem prevents final installation of the program. On the other hand, I don't think it would be causing your current problem which existed, of course, prior to your loading the Hot Fix...

Have you actually tried editing with the patched program? Does it work properly now? VS 11/11.5+ seems full of strange behaviour. Some people have reported getting error messages after they have successfully edited and closed the program (I have started experiencing that myself in the past couple of days!) Some get warning messages while editing, saying the program will close. They just move the error box aside and keep on editing successfully. "These are just some of the strange stories brought to you from ... the Outer Limits"!!!

Hello Ken .

I am going to use it to edit a film tomorrow so I will see how it goes , it doesn't seem to be very good from what you say .Perhaps I will wait for V12 and just carry on with V11 for the time being .

Thanks . John.

If you still have the error uninstall VideoStudio, the re-install and then apply the TWO patches.
This one first
Ulead VideoStudio 11 Update Pack (Release Date: 2007/11/6)
then this one second
Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus Power Pack (Release Date: 2007/11/8 )

Hi John,
For your information I am having the same problem, just installed 11 Plus, the patches in the order suggested, and when I run the programme it starts, shows a progress bar and then crashes with the following module in the debug info:

AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 11.0.0.0 ModName: album.vfx
ModVer: 8.0.0.0 Offset: 00003abd

The main programme has been upgraded, however there are plugins and other files missing, which don't stop Videostudio from working, but of course imply an incomplete upgrade. For example the 'Album' transition is missing.

Any ideas on what is wrong Ken ?

Any help appreciated,

Sanjay

Ah, my old friend the wretched Album set of transitions! Those with a long memory will recall that a couple of years ago, I had a very longstanding problem of not having Album transitions with VS10. No amount of reinstalling would get them to appear... until for other reasons I had to reformat my whole computer and reinstall everything. Then hey presto, they suddenly appeared.

I am not suggesting you have to take that drastic step and I have not heard of missing Albums with VS11 (Corel seems to have dropped a couple of the more problematic ones). But I am not clear about one thing. You mentioned incomplete install. But when you first installed VS11+, did you have the download/upgrade version or the full boxed version? If the download version, then you should have received 3 download links to the main program, Extra Content (including, I think, all the transitions, templates etc) and a third one with Bonus features like WinDVD which are not essential to the smooth operation of VS11. But the Extra Content is essential...

In other words, if you are now trying to install the Power Pack update to VS11.5+, in surveying the current install, it may detect that something is missing...

missing files

Post by b_potts7 »

Hello everyone,

I just recently purchased videostudio 11.5 plus as part of the bundle deal (as a download). It is the full version, registered, etc. So, for the powerpack update, you must install the Nov. 6th patch, then the Nov. 8th powerpack for 11.5 plus. I installed them in that order like you guys said.

Now, my problem is similiar to "johnevans4" post. The patch and update installed normally on my computer, but when I started up Ulead videostudio, a progress bar appeared in the middle of the screen as if something was trying to update or install itself. Unfortunately, I too got the Windows error and it closed me out of the Ulead program without the progress bar moving from the 0% spot.

I got back into Ulead a second time without any progess bar or error occurring (and it only does that to me when the patch or update was installed). Everytime I install the patch and/or update, it gives me the error and kicks me out the first time the program starts up, but it is fine everytime the program starts up thereafter. I checked my version and it was indeed updated to 11.5.0157.2 plus.

The only other problem I am noticing is a lack of some frame decoration and flash animation files. For instance under the flash animation files, I am missing files to "MotionD02" through "MotionF18" files. When I click on one of those files, it has me try to relink them even though they were never installed in the samples folder where they belong (some files from the samples folder work fine by the way).

So, in conclusion, I am missing out on some frame decorations and flash animation files. I see their thumbnail pictures and what they should be however. Other than that, everything else seemed to update and install sucessfully.

I have reinstalled everything twice now and redownloaded the patch and powerpack update file as well (this has not fixed the problem).

Sorry about the long message, but I wanted to give you enough information. I am more than happy to listen to any advice or info you may have for me. Thanks!

Re the missing items, have you opened and transferred all the contents of the second of the three files you should have downloaded in your original pack from Corel or whoever (i.e. not the November patch and Power Pack). The second file is labelled something like Extra_Content. I think only one thing in it installs automtically. Everything else, samples etc, you have to unpack and insert manually onto your computer.

Well, I spent a good 20-30 minutes looking through all my Ulead folders/files and noticed quite a bit of new images and templates that were not automatically loaded, but I did not come across a file labeled Extra_Content or anything to that extent which may have had the decorations or flash animation files mentioned earlier.

Is there another file you would like me to look for or perhaps do something differently?

No, I am talking about the original package you bought and downloaded. You should have received links to 3 large files. I can't recall their exact names, but the first was the main program file, which you obviously have. Then there should have been another large file called Extra-Content and a third one called Bonus_Features or something similar. It contains other programs not essential to the functioning of VS. But the EXtra_Content contains templates, and video, audio, image and mask files apart from anything else.

Oh, oh, oh...sorry Ken. I feel like an idiot...I disregarded those because I did not see a serial number with them. I have no clue what I was thinking (just a "duh" moment).

Ok, I installed those and Ulead videostudio is working great with all the neccessary files.

Thank you for your patience with this novice[me] and I appreciate your hard work on these forums. Keep up the great work and take care.
