Too good to be true VS 11.5 price

Post by rckowal »

Can this be legitimate?

There is a British seller on eBay who is selling VideoStudio 11.5 Plus (CD only, no box) for about $35.00. They claim this is a genuine CD-ROM, full, unused & unregistered software with a genuine license.

They also claim they are license resellers (quote) "This software is created by COREL USA, and licensed for resale by LicenseResellers".

First, there needs to be 2 CDs, and there should be a Manual with the package. And of course, you have to check that there is a serial number and that it has not been used before, whatever they may claim about it being unregistered. The discs would, moreover, need to have proper labels. It is also curious that they say it is VS11.5 Plus. As far as I am aware, even though Corel advertise it as VS11.5+, you only get VS11+, and then have to go to the Corel/Ulead website and download and install update patches to get you to VS11.5+. And finally, they other thing you would need to be sure of is that you are not getting something labelled SE as that is a Special (i.e. crippled) Edition which is distributed free with hardware you have bought, and should not cost anything. Are they are a well known, large software selling company? I am afraid, I would tend to be very suspicious...

Check out the feedback from other buyers, that's usually a reasonable indicator.

Thanks for replying Ken. I share your suspicion about this proposition; but I wanted to see what the folks on this forum have to say.

Before I continue; does anyone know if Corel has a "licensed reseller" program. When I tried to search this on the web I couldn't find anything.
Judging from the information I could find, they are small & fairly new. They don't even have a web site - only eBay listings. Within the past few week, a prior listing was shut down by eBay (for reasons unknown).

I certainly don't want to buy from these people.

Best regards, Richard

Here below in quotes is a copy of his ebay description...it appears they are used copies..and seller is not sure of registration..I would stay away from that deal
signed
Joe O

start of quote...
"Ulead Video Studio 11 Plus & DVD Movie Factory 6 Plus

These are used copies of these two award winning programs, updates can be found at the Corel website. I am not sure if these can be registered as they are used, but give it a try if that is important to you, however as I said updates can be downloaded with no problem. Ulead was just swallowed up by Corel so not sure how they are handling everything. These are the dvd's only in paper sleeves, i just downloaded the pictures for display only. The cd's are in excellent condition. Movie Factory Plus consists of 1 cd, video studio is 2 cd's" - end of quote

Thanks for the idea Sherman. Although their feedback (over 100) is fairly good, most of it was from sales of other software. Their VS listings only started within the past month or so.

To further cloud the picture, their prior sales were all for "digital download" - no CD's, box, manuals, etc. There's no feedback about VS CD-ROM sales from buyers at this time.

Sorry but I wouldn't touch them with someone else's barge pole.
He is selling copies of some software he has bought - possibly several copies of it to as many people who offer to purchase it. Its a bit like selling you a pirated serial number but he is throwing in a copy of the program on a CD. It's a wonder he hasn't offered to send them to you via electronic download!!

Joe, Your quote is not from the listing I'm referring to.

I don't know if URL links are permitted here, but this is the listing I was asking about. http://cgi.ebay.com/Ulead-VideoStudio-1 ... dZViewItem

Links are allowed, unfortunately I am at my workplace and do not have access to ebay due to the company firewall. I would still remain very suspicious of any software bought via Ebay.

When you select Visit Seller's Store, the only products listed are Power DVD and VS11. So I am even more suspicious...

Although I didn't intend to buy from this source, thanks anyhow to everyone who replied with comments. This discussion might also save some other souls from falling into this apparent scam. Best regards Richard
