Video Studio 7 SE Basic

Post by cindyhunnicutt »

I have had this software for a long time, obviously- but still use it with no problems. Recently had a computer crash. Tried to reinstall it and do not have an activation code. I see there is no longer support for this version. Help!
Thanks!

Welcome to the forums,

Sadly Corel probably will not be able to issue an activation code, since that is waaay before Corel's acquisition of Ulead.

I was not aware that an activation code was required for SE (free bundled) versions. The TBYB (trial) versions could be activated to a full version using an activation code, but not SE or VE versions.

The only solution would be to try and locate another SE version, or purchase the current version.

Did you register it when you first installed? If so, you can go to the Ulead or Corel website, log-on and as far as I am aware, the serial number should be listed under your name there.

I am a little surprised, though, since I thought SE versions normally did not require a specific serial number. The S/N is often embedded in the installation program itself...

Try using Windows System Restore to before the crash.
If it works you will be able to retrieve your serial number.

Since the company no longer supports or sells this version, and I don't use my copy either, I'm sure they'll forgive me for passing on the serial number, which is:

Serial number removed by Admin.

My copy does not include the word 'basic', so I can't guarantee this will work, but give it a whirl!

If you did not reformat your hard disk the serial number may still be in the REGISTRY.
I'm not sure if Lead used the same location to store it for version 7 as it does for version 10 but you could have a look at the following location (you will need to RUN REGEDIT)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
ULEAD SYSTEMS
INFO
there you will find a STRING KEY named SERIAL NUMBER which has the serial number

VideoStudio 7 SE Basic

Post by HaggisHunter »

Just had the dreaded Vista system crash, too. Found my old VS 7 SE Basic (bundled) installation CD and installed, registered and updated with no problems - so far! Surprised the H out of me :o

Now, is there any upgrade path from VS 7 to VS 11 or 11.5 without having to pay the full price?

Incidentally, one of these days I'm gonna have to dump MS Office and go back to WP Office. Its major advantage is that it is not Microsoft!

Corel seem to have done away with the upgrade version so you end up buying the full version. Don't ask any of us here why, we are only users like yourself.
