Video Quality Issues with DVDW2

Post by Clark77042 »

I just purchased DVD Workshop 2 and I am having problems with video quality. Everytime the actress moves her head there are horizonal lines where the movement occurs. The files are in MPEG-2 format. The video quality is 24Bits, 1440X1080 16:9, frame rate 29.97 and data rate 25000kbps.

Also when I play the DVD on my Blue Ray player it drops back to the menu. On my sony player it just loops back to to the beginning of the chapter.

This video is going to be released next month, so I have a very short timeline to fix these issues.

When I am using DVD MovieFactory 4.2 I do not have the flickering problem at all.

DVDW2 seems to be a very good program if these issues get resolved.

Firstly, WS2 was released about 4 years ago and was never designed for anything HD: the highest DVD resolution is 720x576/480. It is utopian to think you can use it for HD discs.

Secondly, the combing you see on horizontal movements is because you have the wrong field settings: they should be the same as the original.

The normal behaviour with any DVD/player combination is for it to play the selected chapter, then all the subsequent chapters, up to the end of the title, when it should move back to the title. If you want it to loop at the end of the title (not chapter), you have to say so deliberately in your playlist.

If I were you, I would not use WS2 to re-encode to DVD-compliant MPEG-2 from HD MPEG-2: use an editing application which is designed for HD, making sure that you use the correct field settings, make sure that the same field setting is used in WS2 and make sure that it does not re-encode.

I am filming in HD Quality video for the quality. I do not have a Blu-Ray burner. I am wanting to record on a standard DVD. Is there a way to convert it to Standard video? The reason I am using DVDW2 is I need to show some still jpeg files in the final chapter. Not sure if I can do that with DVD MovieFactory 4.2. Also I like the menu systems.
