Transition effects and timing

Post by Housepiglet »

Hello,

I wonder whether anyone can explain this to me?

I can't work out whether inserting transition effects between 2 clips increases the overall play length of the two clips. It seems to be doing that, but I can't quite work out whether it's my imagination or not. If it does do that, then it seems to make it quite difficult to synchronise clips with a piece of music unless one puts every transition effect in as one goes along. (I try to do that, but sometimes the artistic muse overcomes me and I have to make a change  )

Can anyone help, please?

Whenever I use transitions between two adjacent clips it SHORTENS the total length. The amount depends on the length you choose for the transition (a transition length usually defaults to one second but can be modified).
It works as it you OVERLAP the two clips.
You should be able to prove this by creating a new project, place two video clips on the time line. note the total length (seconds), add a transition and then check the total length - now should be less by the length of the transition (well it does for me anyway).

Believe it or not, VS got something right with the tabs across the top of the preview window, and you should try to edit in that order: Capture, Edit, Effects, Audio, Share.
