In VS 8 when I put in a photo and tried to pan and zoom I would always get a pulsing or shimmering effecting when converted to mpeg. It did not matter if it was mpeg 1 or 2...always pulsed...
has anyone tried the pan and zoom in VS 9 and gotten clean videos?

yes exactly...i remember coutless thread on fixes which involved blurring the images panned...which is not really a fix....the final product mpeg if you had jpg/bmp images panned and zoomed would reult in terrible flickering..especially in high contrast area...this only happened with videostudio...i use premiere and vegas on occassion and that never happens.

I am not sure that that will necessarily tell you anything. A program may react quite differently on different computers, depending on their individual architecture. In VS 8, for instance, I have never had the problem of flickering of images inserted into video clips. And in my last DVD, I also include one segment in the middle of a clip of several still images which I panned and zoomed in on (because the video of the same scene was far too dark, whereas the stills I took with a flash). And they came out just fine.
In other words, what I am trying to say is that I am one of the people who have never had problems with VS 8 (lucky I guess). And you could get a response from people who have no problem in VS 9, but the same might not be true of VS9 on your computer (though hopefully it would be!)

I downloaded the trial version of VS9 yesterday and loaded a previous project made with VS8. It loaded it right in, that was cool. Anyway, my project is a 1 hr and 16 min video. It has still shots with pan and zoom and without pan and zoom. VS8 caused flicker/pulsating, but only on some of the still shots. After rendering with VS9 trial, all the flicker/pulsating went away. Plus, I do believe the overall quality of the video is cleaner and more crisp. No edge pixelation like I saw with VS8. I burned it using trial version MF4 onto a Sony DVD+RW.

i have relooked at my original pics i have in vs8 un gaussed as suggested by someone when i had terrible problems with flicker, pulsating images/pixels.
In VS9 i have had no problems with it at all.
picture is a lot clearer and i can use lower field in my which i couldnt before for images. i had to use frame based.
Also i have some pics of two bichons playing about in whicker baskets.
with vs8 terrible flicker with the wicker baskets.
vs9 no flicker at all. no flicker on the two dogs either as they are pure white.
My opinion is that this is what VS8 should have been!
I can not endorse VS8 over the frustratrion it caused and basically didnt work! ie daylight savings setting problem.
I also observe in vs8 that if you have any red in teh picture it went strange ie teh picture got distorted and liney. In VS9 no such problems. In VS9 no such problems occur.
Also a bonus here is that if you have Cool 3D pro Studio it seems in my opinion to process the files a lot better that Cool 3d pr it self can let alone vs8 and 7.
Only one problem. Speed. 20 seconds took me 3 hours to number crunch the other night. But do you expect with a 3d applicaiton!
I am therefore endorsing VS9.
