2 pass encoding

Post by renx »

Typically, I output my video to HDV mpeg 720P and then convert to avi with xvid encode, 2 pass settings using vdubmod and a resize filter. I am hoping to eliminate a step in this process.

"Why am I saving to a HDV 720p mpeg profile?" you ask.

I am working with several encoding formats. First, the PanaDV codec to encode DV. The aspect is 720x480. This is the main video.

Second, multiple divx encoded overlay videos that reside over the video throughout the production.

Third, several png overlays that reside on top of the video throughout the production duration.

When I output the production using any other profile besides HDV 720p mpeg, the overlain video loses clarity. I've have tried to output using the original PanaDV codec, I have encoded using the Divx and Xvid codecs and have the bitrates as high as possible. All these methods have resulted in the video overlay losing clarity. The HDV 720p profile does the best job blending all of the videos together (and de-interlacing at the same time). But the process takes forever!

When the production is finished, using vdubmod, I compress it using xvid, hd profile, 2 pass setting with a bitrate of 3500 kb/s in order to maintain the clarity of all video components. I also have to resize the video from the HDV 1280x720 aspect to 720x480 using the built in lanczos3 re size filter.

Ideally, If I can encode initially with xvid and not lose the clarity of the overlain videos. I'd be very happy.

Any guru's out there who have any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Guys: Here is your fix.

The answer to your problem can be found at the end of this

I had the same problem. The Movietem.dat file where the template is
stored was set to Read Only, and thats why it won't save your templates.

You have to read carefully because the file can be in 2 different places.
But one of them will be set to "read only".
