Using MF 3.0 and just got a new Pioneer DVR-108 drive. Suppose to burn at up to 16x. (using -R) Right now all I have is 4x media. Ritek G04, and Verbatim Digital Movie DVD-R. MF3.0 says "Recording and 4x, but it takes 30-35 minutes. Its progress bar was moving at 4x (15 min) and when it got to 100% it would sit for another 15 min before reporting success. I did the CD/DVD Burning Update and that eliminated the hanging at 100%, now it just says recording at 4x and then it takes 30 min. It does the same with both media types. Anyone know why this won't actually burn at 4x?
Drive: Pioneer DVR-108
Firmware: 1.14
Media: Verbatim Digital Movie DVD-R (4x)
Ritek G04 (4x)
MF 3.0 Burning engine: 3.6.17.246 (ULCDRDrv.dll)
Burning issues. Misreporting and speed problems
2 things you could try.
1. Try burning the DVD folder from hard drive to a DVD-R with another program such as Nero. This will determine whether its a Ulead burning problem.
2. Try burning using Ulead and another type of media. I have had good success using Princo with the Pioneer burners and would recommend trying them. Burners can be slowed down having to do power calibrations. If it has to constantly adjust due to the media, that may be causing some of your issues. Also if the drive is determining it can only burn safely at 2X, that may account for the time.

Some other things...
Hi,
It sounds like it burned at 4x since it got to 100% in 15 minutes. It just seems like it got stuck doinbg something for the next 15 minutes. I've seen this happen a couple of times (I don't know why it sits for a long time at 100%).
But I've done the following that seems to have helped (not sure which one does the trick)
-always burn dvd to hard drive first, then I burn from hard drive to disc in a separate step
-always reboot pc before burning, when it comes back up, I immediately shut down all non-essential background tasks (especially my McAfee Virus scanner). I also shut off my screen saver.
-uninstalled some software I had that emulated a cd-rom drive
-uninstalled packet-writing software (the kind that allows you to drag-and-drop to a disc like it was a hard drive)
Regards,
George
