Why are the team at Ulead so slack at getting back to me after I have been trying to get some tech advise on smart download. Is it just me or are others having the same problem. I have not even got a confirmation from them as yet.
For a company that prides themselves on being proffesional and having good customer relations they are very slack.
I can see many people are having trouble with smart download. It just want download anything. I have been going to ulead website and some of the downloads are not working either eg. componant designer files.
Any thoughts ..... Frustrated.

You ask any ideas? I say, this is a VERY lame product, go get Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, they are MUCH better, better support, people who actually know what they are doing, I posted a question 2 weeks ago and still no reply!
Also, tell all your friends to avoid Ulead products!!!!
I just moved and can't find my Photoshop software to load on this new computer, so figured this would be OK to use until I do, nope, it is lame, poor product, ultra poor support.

Do you have a firewall running? That will sometimes prevent progams from accessing the internet. Win XP has a internal one, I don't use it so can't give you any advice on whether that's the issue. If at some point in the past you denied PI access to the net then it won't be able to connect or recieve, try the help files on your machine to see what is allowed and not allowed to access the net.

And to be blunt one of the reasons tech support is so shoddy from any one of a number of companies is from being swamped with issues like yours caused by a lack of knowledge on the users part as opposed to something wrong with the product.
1.Go to save> as html..... create a new folder to save in.
2.To add to a site, cut the code out of the generated html page that will be in the new folder. Keep in mind to not duplicate the <head> <head/> and <body> <body/> tags but place the code bewteen the tags in your new document.
3.There will also be a new folder created within the new one you created, called images usaully. That folder and it's contents have to be placed in the same directory as whereever the document resides just as it does on your computer.
4.If you wish to use it in multiple documents in multiple directories you need to add the images folder in each directory or change the path on your webpage from a relative path to an absolute path.

Lame huh? How long have you used the product to make this judgement? Give me some of example of what those two can do that PI can't. I think many of the problems encountered are brought on by the users themselves. I've been using PhotoImpact for a lot of years now and it's rare that I have a problem.
Rather than posting your problem here on this board, you might get better results if you submitted a help ticket via their support page and/or call them directly on their 800 number.

I read her post from before about what the trouble was, she was getting the red ex when she uploaded a file to a server. PI uses relative paths as opposed to absolute, it can't use absolute because it doesn't know what it's going to be. If you change the structure of the image directories the path is no longer correct and the image can't be found...... BTW from my undrstanding....I haven't used it but asked somone..... The full $600 version of PS can't create that image without editing the paths manually which even in the hands of a professional would take quite a while.
The question here wasn't about a red X and images not showing, it is about smart download. The first post indicates that the person is having trouble trying to do the smart download.
It would really be helpful if people would give more information when asking for help. Something like "having trouble downloading"... that could mean a lot of things. What happens when trying to download? Is there an error message? Does the system lock up?
If attempting to do the smart download via PI doesn't work, then try downloading one module at a time from this locatin:
