Cannon HG 10 Video and Corel Applications don't work!

Post by ruiyongy »

Recently just bought a brand new Cannon AVCHD HG 10. Installed all software discs to PC. All videos were transferred to PC. But can't play and screen showed: Invalid format.
What should I do here?
Thanks.

I'm not srue if there is any good solution..

I believe your camera has 2 or 3 format options, and you can try them all to see if any work.

You may have to try-out the competition. (Or, use whatever software that came with the camera.) You might try doing some online research or read some "home video" magazines to find out what software other Sony HD camera owners are using.

Maybe Corel will release an update (or upgrade) to fix this problem... someday...

One person found that his "new" computer worked with his Sony files (different camera). But, he didn't say what was different about his new computer.... maybe it has Vista???? See

I have the same camera and I too FIRST had problems viewing the video files. At first I used the included CANON Backup Utility software to extract the video files from the camera. THIS, however, saves the files in the ".MTS" format, which is an unprocessed file extension.

You NEED to use the included COREL Application Disc CD-ROM to download the 4 softwares (Corel GuideMenu, Intervideo WinDVD SE, and Ulead DVD Movie Factory SE, and DVD Movie Writer SE).

It is the GUIDEMENU software that will extract the video files, and save them in the ".M2TS" format (or file extension).

The GuideMenu should automatically open up AFTER you connect the HG10 to the PC with the included USB2 cable, AND turn the HG10 to the video play mode (not record). Once, the files are extracted, you can use the WinDVD SE player to view the movies OR Movie Factory SE to edit and make a DVD movie.

Corel has released patches and I've posted the locations before so perform a search under HG10 & etech6355.
The link to the Corel updates to the MF6SE version that came with the HG10 is on the "Canon" website under the HG10 software updates.

Even if I had the HG10 and MF6SE I wouldn't use it.
I would purchase the full MF6 PLUS along with the HD-ADD-ON pack.
Then you can make good use of your camera.

Note: When working with the HG10 AVC/H264 video files you should have at a minimum a Core2Duo Processor. Presently I run a Q6600 quad processor to process the avc/264 videos from these camcorders.

Here is a link to another thread that contains the links for the program Updates supplied by "Corel" for the MF5.6SE program.

Try copying the disc to your PC hard drive, using Windows Explorer. Then see if you can run the install from there. If not you need to contact Canon to obtain a new disc. You might try contacting Corel, and see if they can supply you with a new disc, however I wouldn't count on it.

I have tried that - the Data1.cab file isn't working. Corel told me to go to Canon and Canon told me to go to Corel! Is there somewhere I can download the file from?

Corel Guide menu

Post by thrbh01 »

I have the same problem in corel software not working with my Canon HG10. One reply on the newsforum was that you need to use the Guide menu. When I run the disc that came with the camera I only get "InterVideo Win DVD SE" and Ulead DVD Movie Factory SE". I don't get the menu or DVD Movie writer SE. Does anyone know how I can install these programmes?
