out of memory errors in vs 11.5 +

Post by tc_alo »

I have been banging my head for two weeks now
just bought this product and was very ipressed in its capabilities
and then the reality struck that at this rate I will never complete this job
( consisting of a slide show approx 450 pictures )
I have previously used adobe premer ( 3 versions )
so i am not a complete idiot
the project in it entirety is 51 minutes
I used album transitions
i finally got it to work but used like 4 work arounds and spent at least 30 hrs reading posts on this site to create this project
which is complete after following the recommended work flow stated in various repeated posts and then doesnt show the transitions
that was a real dissapointment
titles fine audio fine no transitions
but the out of memory issue was the real downer my system consists basically of the following

intel 4.3 mghz processor
4 gigs of ram all matched 400 speed
500 gb IDE main hd
2 500 gb sata raid ( striped ) drives which hold programs and data
virtual memory is set to double my ram
( never touches it )
and i start with nothing running but the app itself
for the most part
i have an pinnacle ati based 256 mb video capture card ( all in wonder stlye )
and the only way i can produce this project is to cut it up into 15 minute sections
into a mpeg2 file then tye them all together into a new project then title and burn
doesnt seem fair
please help

Welcome to the forums!

How does the Pinnacle card tie into things? I mean what do you use it for in relation to your project? I ask because Pinnacle makes hardware which only tends to work with its own software (normally some version of Pinnacle Studio).

Next, the album transitions, while they look OK, have proven to be the most problematical of any in successive versions of Video Studio. A lot of people have trouble getting them to work. I know that is not what you want to hear, but none of us on this forum work for Ulead/Corel, and it has been shown time and time again that the Album transitions are trouble. If I use them, which is very rarely, I will use only one -- say, to introduce a slide show or a video. But after that I will use other transitions. And where possible I will use Album-type transitions from other packages (e.g. CanopusFX).

If you used Album transitions exclusively in your slideshow, and if that means roughly 450 Album transitions, then I am afraid I can understand why they processing fell over. Indeed, if you managed to get them to work for a 15 minute segment, that is pretty amazing in itself. And I suspect it is them and them alone which is eating up your memory cumulatively.

So all I can think of is to use other transitions, and restrict Album ones to one or two ... or none at all!

the pinnacle card is one i got with a package i bought ( pinnacle liquid 7 )
but the card which pinnacle says is its own is really a ati card stock with thier sticker on it
so let me get this straight
#1 its your opinion that if i use none of the packages album flip transitions that this issue would be resolved possibly
#2 its possible that the other transitions in the package may function just fine ?
#3 please enlighten me as to the other transitions you eluded to and how to possibly implement them into my projects

And thank you in advance
I'm just getting going hopefully as a full time job i can do out of my home
I have cancer and am in remmission but it has left me disabled and
I was a computer tech for 20+ years prior to getting cancer so I am very hopefull in seeing this product work as it is a very easy to use package and is very fast to use to compile project like this
any suggestions as to addons or other avenues I may take would be greatly appreciated

P.S. This forum is one of the best Ive Seen & I can see that I will bve seeing alot more of it

Do you have your C: drive on a partition? If so, it may be that it's running out of space on that partition where all the temp files and Smart Render files are placed by default. You need at least your whole project size (preferably twice) free, for safety. IOW, for example, if you have a 2 h DV project, the ideal would be to have 50 Gb free, but not less than 26 Gb, otherwise, it will run out of memory.
