Can I fade out a sound file in v.11.5 Plus

Post by Housepiglet »

Hi,

I'm making a vid using photos and film my sister and I took recently at a family occasion. I've split the video and audio so that I can use the audio (sound of birdsong in the woods, where we were) under some photos later in the video. I can't seem to get the audio to fade out properly, though. I've pressed the triangular 'fade out' thing, and I've also looked at the clip in audio view and moved the line which represents sound so that it appears to be fading. It doesn't actually fade when I listen to it, though. Although the volume reduces it still ends suddenly.

Is it possible to do this, please? Unfortunately my new Vista PC won't let me use the sound editor I normally use, so I think my only current chance of doing this is within VS.

Many thanks for any help.

You have to bring the rubber band or the audio line to zero, make it touch the
bottom. You wont hear it then.

Thanks babdi. I'd tried that, but although the sound does stop it stops a bit suddenly at the end. Not to worry, though. It'll do until I get a sound editor working again.

In my experience, the audio sounds in its original form when played in Clip mode, but plays with the fade outs in Project mode.

The triangular ¡¥fade out¡¦ thing, duration can be changed from:-

File ¡V preferences-- edit-- set the default duration to say 4 seconds.

The default level being 1 sec may be to short to notice the fade..

Also set the transition effect to the same, that way the audio fade in out will match the transition effects.

Copy audio¡K¡K¡K
If you need a copy of the audio use Share Create Sound File, this will create a wav of the entire project., saved to the hard drive with a thumbnail in the library, can be used in the audio tracks.

You can use the scissors to cut the audio file selecting the bits you require. (the bird songs)

I have had problems once in a while with audio fades. Almost seems like the clip gets corrupted and no matter what I try I can't fade to absolutely nothing. So if Ken's or Trevor's tips don't work try this.

Completely delete the audio file that is on the timeline now. (Don't worry that it was split from your video. All that does is mute the audio on the video track and puts a copy on the audio track.) Anyway, re-split the audio so you get a fresh audio clip then try again to fade.
