16:9 isn't displaying when DVD plays in DVD player

After I have burned a DVD with the 16:9 setting, and it shows that way when I build the menus, it looks more like 4:3 when I play it on my DVD player/television...kinda stretched upwards.

I built the DVD with a AVI movie and a slide show.

Is the problem my DVD player or television? Or another setting in Movie Factory I cannot find...Thanks in advance.

My DVD menu setup has 3 display settings :
Normal TV - Pan and Scan,
Normal TV - Letter Box, and
Wide Screen TV.
When I select Wide, the video fills my whole "normal" TV's screen as you describe, i.e. vertically distorted.
