presales question

Post by phiniac »

A customer is sending me a promotional DVD of theirs and i'll need to edit out a few chunks of it and have it converted to some sort of streaming file type (mpeg?) to post on the internet. Is there one program out there that can do this or will I have to get two programs. One for editing....one for converting. Thanks for any advise.

Welcome to the Forum!

Video Studio can do all that. If you do buy it and run into problems, feel free to come back here. The streaming format you choose will of course be important in terms of its size and thus the time it will take to download on a lowest common denominator computer. There are better streaming formats out there in my opinion than mpeg-2 in terms of both size (compression algorithm used) and end quality. Wndows Media Format is one, though that would tend to exclude Mac users. DivX is another, but users would need to have that codec installed on their computers to play it back.

Anyway, there is a wealth of experience on this Board in doing precisely what you want to do with the products covered here. So I am sure others will be more than happy to share their expertise with you.

Video Studio can do that... maybe... Download the trial version and give it a try!

Video Studio has a DVD Import feature to get the video from the DVD into Video Studio. From there, you can edit it, and save it in a variety of formats.

Of course, Video Studio cannot import video from commercial (encrypted/copy protected) DVDs. And, some DVDs just give Video Studio trouble.

Video Studio is a video editing program, but some of us have had trouble editing MPEG-2, which is the format of the video on the DVD, and the format you get when you import it. Most MPEG-2 files seem to be "editable", but I've had trouble with some files and I bought a special-purpose MPEG editor. (You can convert it to a different, more-compressed, format for the Internet, but you'll want to do that conversion after editing... The more-compressed formats are even more troublesome to edit.)
