Lost slide data after burn

Hope someone can help, I have searched the site! After saving and burning a project (SVCD) when re-opening the DPS file the slides that were blank and edited by myself with background and text were blank.
I have tried everything including opening the file on the cd I burnt to get the original info onto those slides without luck. I can see the slides on the preview in explorer when I look at the burnt cd but when I open it, they are blank.

Also, the update patch, when installing, cant find where the program is installed so is useless. there is nowhere to browse to program files to point it in the right direction. The link is here CD & DVD PictureShow 3.0 Update Pack (Released Date: 2004/11/12) I see its a patch for this:

I have burnt my project in svcd format onto cd with both NTSC and PAL settings. They were sent worldwide to family for Christmas but 90% cant view them on their DVD players. I am not sure of the reasons.
I chose the legacy SVCD compatible format, default setting, but maybe should have chosen the Standard setting.
