VS10+ acting like VS10; no smart proxy no 1920x1080

Post by dmstockt »

I had a major computer failure, after getting the system running, I attempted the re-install of VS10+. I now can not enable smart proxy [check-box not enabled] and 1920 x 1080 is not an available frame size.

Project Properties Edit File Format only gives me AVI (though leaving it blank, I can get in and select MPEG-2 options and it appears that it is supporting MPEG-2, just not the HD sizes.)

I had to contact Corel to get a serial number (although I had my upgrade SN...). I'm afraid that although the splash screen and the About screens both say 10 PLUS, it feels [gut feeling] I am actually working with 10.

I have set the Device Control to HDV 1394 and Capture plug-in to HDV. I've already run the SP1 upgrade... what am I missing?

Thanks,
Dan

... and it's crashing with some memory location errors... I just loaded a VSP that I created when everything was working fine, it showed MPEG-2 1920x1080 at the top of the screen and also in the project properties... then it hits an application error "The instruction at "0x0blahblahblah" referenced memory at "0x0blahblahblah". The memory could not be "read". ok-terminate close-debug...

uggghhhh this sucks.

I'm going to try a clean install of VS10+. In the process of this, I'm going to pull off the system things like quicktime, DivX codec etc...

I have my reservations that this will work. This is a fresh hard drive with a clean install of the OS. I'm pretty bored with this for tonight, going to work on my website for a little while then go to bed, I'll let you all know what happens tomorrow.

If you see this reply before going to bed, do the following because it will take all night to work. You can then check the results in the morning.

Last year I had to change a hard drive and put a brand new one in from a famous High Street Superstore. Kept getting all sorts of problems, turned out the new hard drive was faulty.

Windows Start Button | Run | chkdsk /r

It is important for this test that you use the /r switch. It will tell you to reboot the computer to carry out this function, Once it starts it can take a few hours.

So after fooling with my website for a couple hours, I felt up to trying the install again.

This time It worked. I THINK my problem had something to do with a DivX codec I had installed, which I removed before the install. Another potential issue; Although I had installed VISUAL Studio '05, I had not run it; the first time it runs, it takes a while to make itself happy... there is a long configuration that takes place during its initial start-up. This may have had some impact. (I use VisualStudio for web dev; read my first line...) The last thought I had was this... I have not installed the Service Pack yet. I will give that a try tonight (maybe)...

Thanks for the suggestions, even if there wasn't a direct answer to my problem, it is just nice to bouce a problem like that off of others... I've been in the business of fixing things all my life, and sometimes even an analytical mind gets stuck in a paradigm once in a while...

Cheers!

When you say you have installed SP1, was that to your original XP MCE or have you now installed Vista? If MCE, isn't there also a SP2 for that like the other versions of XP? And if you have installed Vista, have you installed the Vista compatibility patch which makes VS10 work with it, sort of...

No, MCE is now running SP3, I was refering to SP1 for VS10+.

For anyone who is still running old hardware... UPGRADE!!!
It is amazing how much faster this new machine of mine is. I'm speaking especially to any beginners. It is much more enjoyable to work with, I know I've got a LOT of tapes (40+) that are just sitting here full of raw video because it was just soooo cumbersome trying to do anything with them.
