How to import a dvd without splitting by .vob or chapters
I've seen several posts where people have problems importing dvd's from either dvd recorders or what ever and VS or MF wants to split the movie into seperate titles based on the number of .vob's or chapter points. I have found a simple work around for this.
You will need DVD Decrypter (FREE)
In DVD Decrypter click on "Tools" then "Settings" then click on the "File Mode" tab. On the right hand side of the screen where it says "Flie Splitting" change the drop down to "None". It will rip your dvd to one large .vob file. Rename the .vob file to .mpeg then load into VS of MF.
It works for me YMMV.

Merlin,
you've got me excited. I've been wanting to use beginning titles, credits and backgrounds, scenes, etc from DVDs for a long time. When I saw this feature on VS9, it made we want to upgrade from VS8. But, I always like to wait till the dust settles. Now from what you've outlined it sounds like this could be done with VS8. If I rip my DVD with Decrypter as you've described and then rename the single .vob to an *.mpeg, I should be able to use the import video feature on VS8. I'll give it a try ASAP!
Before I get carried away, what version of Decrypter are you using? I believe v. 3.5.4.0 is the latest.
Thank you, thank you

They don't have to be on a DVD, but you have to have a DVD-compatible directory structure. If you download a bunch of movies off the 'net (which you obviously shouldn't) and don't put them into a VIDEO_TS folder, UVS won't recognize them. If things like the IFO or BUP are missing, it will probably also not work.

I think I did put an entire dvd into a file via dvd decryptor and then tried to open the folder with the import feature (this was back when I had the Studio8 trial, I can't get the Studio9 import button to work at all; I started a different topic on it). Got the same old incompatible file prompt. I'll try it again if I ever get the import button working on the VS9 trial. It's too bad the first thing I try turns out to be buggy.
Also VS9 trial crashed three times trying to pull video off a dvd-r, where I didn't have any problems with VS8 trial. I didn't buy VS8 cuz 9 was about to come out.
