Runtime Error, VS11+ crashing, WMP launches.....

Hi Forum
Well I am about at my wits end. Since installing Vista and VS11+ (patches + power pack applied too) I have had more trouble with Video Studio than ever before. I am not saying this is all VS fault, but the following is a list (litany?) of events:
1. I get the runtime error message (C+++ error that has been mentioned before in this forum) when i am editing and burning on a regular basis.
2. I get the "Ulead VS has ceased working" "VS will now close" type message VERY frequently and almost EVERY time AFTER I have closed the program (I have taken to saving my project, starting a new project - to fool VS and then when I restart VS and it asks if I want to "recover the previous file I can safely say "NO")
3. When burning more than one DVD (I often have to burn 20+) after the first 2 or 3 I will get Runtime Error (see above) and I have to start burning from scratch (the DVDs are ok it happens at 99%)
4. At the end of burning a DVD Windows Media Player launches itself!!

I don't know what info you need to help me get some stability into this process so please let me know.

Finally I have a new additional PC with XP Home (so badly injured by Vista I dare not risk it again) should I get a second VS10 or second VS11+ license????

I did do a search and am aware that the C+++ error is probably due to the compressed nature of the source files. However, I have no control over the tapes I am given (all are DV tapes) or the cameras that were used to create the footage.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Ditto here on the "runtime error" BLAH blah...then "Program...Ram files....blah blah....vstudio.exe"

I have tried rendering to file first then to disc with the same message.

and ditto to "vs stopped working and will close" This is getting extremely annoying. I am running plenty of memory, a great vid card, and lots of drive space.
