MovieFactory 6.0 Plus Compatibility w/HD Camcorders

Post by Mig »

Hello,

I'm considering upgrading to a HD camcorder - Sony's HDSR12. I would like to use MovieFactory to make the Blueray DVDs, however I'm not sure if it's compatible. Although I found Ulead's compatibility chart, it wasn't specifically listed. I realize the camcorder just came out a month or two ago, so I'm wondering if it hasn't been updated yet.

Appreciate the help!

The SR12 is a HDD cam which means that it does not necessarily need to be "compatible". There is no such thing as a "capture" procedure with a HDD cam since it is seen as simply another HDD by XP (or Vista as the case maybe) when you connect, and you will just COPY or MOVE your files from the cam HDD to the computer HDD just as you would when moving files to/from any other HDD.

The files are then IMPORTED to MF6. In other words, MF6 will not deal with the cam in any direct fashion at all.... only the files.

So are the AVCHD files that will be imported from the SR12 'compatible' with MF6 (Plus HD pack)?

WARNING - Some people are having trouble with Sony AVCHD files.

I don't know the details... I don't know if everybody has problems (probably not*). And, I don't know if there is a solution... I just remember reading a few posts... You might want to search the forum for Sony and/or AVCHD before you start buying hardware or software. :?

brenty,
Neonbob gives a very good description to your question. To provide more information for you (my opinion) I feel one of the important points for you is to consider whether or not your computer can handle working with avchd video. AVCHD video requires a fast computer, both for editing & proper playback. Personally I would recommend at least a Core2 Duo/Quad ( My choice would be at least a Core2 Quad@2.4Ghz (Intel Q6600). There are faster ones on the market now, I have no experience with the new AMD Quad Processors.

MF6+ with the HD-AddOn pack (extra $20.00) should be able to meet your needs if your computer specs are up to the task, meaning at least a Core2-Duo Processor.

Hope this helps
