VCideo Studio v 9

Post by pollardsboar »

I am trying to burn a DVD, I have done this many times before but now the S/w is playing up/.
My current problem is the process gets to the burn stage then stops <quoting
"UNABLE TO BURN TO DISC ERROR 5213 TRY AGAIN AFTER REBOOT"
Anyone any ideas what this means? the technical query section of Ulead does not list error 5213.

Welcome to the forums!

Regarding your problem, it's difficult to tell since you tell us nothing what your work "process" actually is, much less the properties of the original files, what editing you have done, and whether you first converted to a DVD compatible mpeg-2 before opening the burning module, or whether you jumped straight from the editing timeline to the burning module.

Apart from that, the usual culprit is a set of blank DVDs whose brand/colour/type/burning speed is not liked by your DVD burner.

You might also want to go to the Microsoft DirectX website and download the latest update patch. The current one is dated March 2008 and can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
Note that it updates both DirectX 9.0c (XP) and 10 (Vista). The number of your DirectX installation will not change, but the patch gives extra functionality in a number of areas and corrects other faults in the burning stage in VS which appear linked to Windows updates.

Mr Berry , thank you for your information. I had gone through the full process of adding MPEG 4 video files and finalising the project into the SHARE mode ie burn a disc. The process is currently being redone and the system is rendering the files ie preparing video data and converting video title. I will download the update you suggested whne my ACER finishes its current job.

Can you right click on one of the mpeg-4 files within Video Studio (either in the timeline or in the library pane) and copy *all* its properties here, please. I would like to know what camera they came from and whether they are high definition/AVCHD versions of mpeg-4, or standard definition.

But mpeg-4 is innately a difficult format to deal with, and by the sounds of it, you are inserting (and editing?) mpeg-4 into the timeline, then when editing is finished, jumping straight to the burning module. In other words, you are asking your computer to carry out the incredibly complex and demanding task of converting mpeg-4 to DVD-compatible mpeg-2, plus menu conversion, multiplexing audio and video, and the actual burning, all in one step on the fly! If your computer is not particularly powerful, and particularly if the original video is high definition, many computers will simply fall over at this demand.

That is why we recommend, especially for difficult formats like mpeg-4, that you do things in steps. After editing, you first convert the mpeg-4 to DVD compatible mpeg-2 by going to Share > Create Video File > DVD.

Note also that after you produce your new mpeg-2, you go to File > New Project. Don't worry about giving your new project a name. The objective is just to clear the timeline of your current project.

Once that is done, you select Share > Create Disc > DVD. The burning module will open. Use the Add Media button at the top to insert your new mpeg-2 in the burning timeline. Then go to the middle of the three icons in the bottom left of the burning screen. There is a little box beside the words 'Do not convert compliant mpeg files'. Make sure that box is ticked (it usually is by default). That way, your already compliant mpeg file will not be re-encoded. Then build your menus and burn.

The mpeg 4 files( standard defination) are from my recent holidays and were on a SD card fitted to the Sanyo XACTA camcorder. As usual I loaded the cards contents on to my PC and added the files to the TIMELINE then put in effects and titles.
This morning I fiddled around with the files a bit and converted the project to mpeg2 then burnt it to a disc. The PC DVD recorder is a LITEON the same as my stand alone machine. The handbook contains alist of "acceptable" dvds to use.The one I had tried was not on the list so that appears to have been the cause of the error report. In future I will do my projects this way rather than do them on the "fly".
My system has an AMD Sempron 3000 -1800 mz CPU 2 gb RAM Radeon 9250 Video Card and a LITEON DVDRW SOHW1633S :D
