That is why I simply copied the new vft file to the VS vft folder (after I closed VS, of course  ).
I tried not moving & moving .vft file & it's not working.

The .vft file automatcally went in the VS folder.

Maybe it doesn't work with VS10+.
Sorry to tell you Rich, but mine is installed on VS10+. :(

Hi there,

Can you please tell me where to find the Freebies List? I've had a quick look but haven't managed to rootle it out.

Ta! :P

It works with VS10+ and VS9 too.
I downloaded and installed it with no problems. It appeared immediately (without any need to move files) in video filters in BOTH VS9 and VS10+ and is great.
I think this will create great lead in movie clips (ie "use first clip as introductory video")
Thanks.

I have found a problem with this free video filter!

It is ONLY available to the user who installs it which results in a problem using a video editing profile (user login).

Yes I installed and was able to use this freebie WITHOUT any problems when I installed it using my 'normal' user login HOWEVER when I switched user to be 'video editing' user login, the filter was listed but the 'icon' for it is just a black rectangle and when you apply it to a clip it causes the clip to display totally BLACK.
Well I then decided to install it from my video editing login - next problem. The video editing login ('profile') does not allow connection to the internet. I refer to Steve's article on creating a video editing profile when I refer to my video editing user login.

Can anyone suggest a fix (I don't want to temporarily change my video editing login if possible)?

Log on to Windows with your normal profile when the computer starts, but select the video editor user account when you get to the Windows log on screen. You might need to temporarily promote the Video Editor user account to admin to install the software.

Thanks Steve,
Since posting I have found that this freebie video filter is ALSO not usable from ANY other login (the filter appears in the 'library' but renders clips totally BLACK).
I managed to get the internet working in my special 'video editor' user login and installed it from there (as you probably know it requires registration by internet only). Well it still was unusable so I then logged in with a completely different user login (which has administrator rights) and still is is unusable. So that's great isn't it? It will only work (it appears) with the user login which was used to initially install it. I even clicked on the 'uninstall' icon (created when it is installed) which didn't seem to do anything and then installed it with another user login - still no good.

Have you noticed this?

Hi Perfection
Not sure if anyone is still looking at this post as I too asked a question which has gone unanswered.
I had no problem installing it and getting it to work (I have Windows XP +SP2 and VS 10+) but if I try to use it when logged in as a different user (than the one I used to install it from) then it is unusable.

Hello I am a new member, never had done any video editing and I am very happy with VideoStudio making it easy. I have learned a lot in this forum and that's the reason I decided to join. Thanks.

Of course getting new features for VS caught my eye. When I was going to install this "free" video filter I read the following under the End User License Agreement:

"Evaluation License / Electronic Key
The Product runs initially in evaluation ("Trial") mode. During Trial mode, the Product inserts visual and/or aural "watermarks" in the media. You may use the Product in Trial mode, but you must purchase a software key to fully enable the Product and disable the watermarks. Upon the payment of the license fee, NewBlue will provide you with an Electronic Key ("Key") to allow permanent use of the software and to access updates and special features that may be offered on the website from time to time. The Key is only for your sole use and you agree that you will not sell, give to others (such as post on the internet), lease or transfer your Key to third parties. NewBlue reserves the right to terminate your use of your Key if in its sole judgment you breach the terms of this license agreement by the misuse of your Key."

Has anybody used this filter in the final product and does it show any watermarks? Is this really a free filter if you need to buy the software to remove the watermarks?

Thanks!

Well, it seems as though you may have been the only one to read the fine print.

I, for one, haven't had a chance to use it yet.

I used Cartoon in an intro to a DVD using VS10 with no visible watermarks and it works quite well, quite good effect with a colour still as well.
