Videostudio 11.5.0157.2 Plus
In EDIT tab, I click on folder icon in order to get the open video file window.
Open video file window opens properly.
Then I select a video file. Now I have to wait several minutes before the file is selected.
Is there a way to reduce this huge duration?
Thanks
Claude.

Welcome to the forum!
Can you confirm it takes several minutes literally, or was that just an exaggeration to say that it takes some time to open the file?
You also don't say what format you are talking about. For instance, if I want to open a standard definition DV file, or even a standard definition mpeg-2, it opens almost immediately. However, when I select a high definition HDV format video, it takes several seconds (up to 10 seconds or more depending on the size of the file) for the file to open. (For example, I recently had a 3 hour HDTV capture in high def .ts format -- excellent quality but fiddly to convert to high def mpeg-2 format .m2t -- and it did in fact take about 2 minutes for it to open.)
And it usually takes even longer, though not by much, if the high definition format is AVCHD...
In other words, a little wait can be normal, depending on the format you are trying to open. But 'several minutes' would in most circumstances be far too long.
However, that being said, I don't know of any way to speed things up. If you are indeed using high definition, and particularly AVCHD, and your computer is not well resourced (Core 2 Duo or Quad), then you should use SmartProxy. That will take some time to generate standard definition proxy files, but after that it should be much faster...
By the way, if you think you might be coming back to Forum in future, it would be very useful if you could fill out the details in your System button.

Adding video file
Hi,
I confirm it takes about 3 minutes or more before I can open the selected file.
During this time, VS is working a lot.
I populate system data in my profile.
Files I am working on come from a TV recorder.
The recorder is Hauppauge WinTv2000 with a DVB-T card.
Some file information:
about video: MPEG-2, 24 bits 720x579, 4:3, 25 images per sec
about sound: MPEG Audio layer 2, 48000Hz, 16 bits, stereo, 2 layers, rate 192 kbps
I hope it will help.
Claude

OK -- those properties look absolutely standard for mpeg-2 so no reason why they should not open almost immediately... (I note you said 720 x 579, when I think that was a typographical error for 576...)
Now, you mention the Hauppage card... Now can you tell us whether you were capturing from that card using Video Studio? Or were you using the software which came with the card (which we recommend)?

Adding video file
Hi,
You are right, it is 576 and not 579.
In addition to the TV card, Hauppauge prodives two software.
A scheduler I use to automatically start video recording
WinTV I use to watch TV or to record video.
All my video files had been created with WinTV.
I do not have any trouble to watch recording using MS windows mediaplayer or VLC.
Claude.
