Your English is very good.
I wouldn't use any USB connected devices, they are poor.

and I'd recommend looking at the canopus advc range of products

I read the previous post and I disagree with that as a blanket statement. I recommend the ADS tech DVD express here http://www.adstech.com/products/USBAV-7 ... BAV-709-EFskier-hughes wrote:Your English is very good.

I have captured countless video with mine down the USB interface just as you desire with zero problems. The video comes out as good as the original on tape. I think the latest version may even use firewire, I'm not sure.
Walmart used to sell this for about 80 bucks. Mine actually came with U-lead video studio 7 bundled so if not for it I may not be here today

Looking beyond and into the future I would suggest that you also consider an internal TV card. Once you have converted your collection of VHS Tapes what then?
If you install a TV card then you hook up your VHS player to the TV card and simply record it onto your hard drive. OK most TV cards will record in MPEG2 not one of the lossless formats such as DV. There is however a good trade off. You turn your computer into a TV Set that will record television and also provide "live pause" and "rewind" - so if you are watching a program and the phone rings - pause it. If you wanted to see something again just rewind it as if it was on a recorded VHS tape.
You also get teletext - the "fastext" version (the one that uses the red green yellow blue buttons).
You can set the computer up to record things in advance - just like a Sky+ box. What this means is that after you have done all those VHS tapes you will still have a worthwhile piece of computer hardware.

Personally I have purchased two different cards as you state and both of them were a nightmare. The last one was a Leadtek Winfast TV2000xp Expert. It conflicted with just about every level of my PC It is back in it's box now. I did my best at the time to research and this one had many good reviews. ARGGGG!. I am a bit scared now to try another one. This one was supposed to turn my PC into the "ultimate digital media center". It turned it into the Ultimate freeze/crash box!!
I don't recall all of it's idiosyncrasies but I do vividly recall how the tuner would fire up every time I started Video Studio and start automatically capturing no matter what I did. And to make it worse there was no way to make it stop short of rebooting. That put me over the edge. It came bundled with VS8 which I already had 10 by that time.
Hopefully there is something better by now.
