I installed Vista's service pack 1 and now when I try to capture video I get the error "unable to switch to capture mode, check if your video capture driver is working properly"
"failed to build a preview graph"
Is the driver in Video studio? Vista supplies the driver for my Canon DV.
I've had to reload both my video card and audio drivers since installing the service pack.
I'm starting to see why people hate Vista, I was liking it till now
failed to build a preview graph

I too originally loaded Vista SP1 on my editing computer, but had issues so removed it. As it was, my computer had every available update from Vista that had until then been available, so I am not sure what else SP1 might have added which caused the problems. However, since removing it, the computer continues to function correctly.
That being said, the only thing I can suggest, if you haven't tried it, is to go to the Microsoft DirectX website and download the latest update dated March 2008. Some users have reported that it fixes the preview graph error. By the way, the DirectX version will remain the same (10) but it does add various things to your existing installation. And DirectX is not on the Microsoft regular update list, so you need to download updates to it manually. In other words, if you have not manually gone to the DirectX site, your DirectX remains the original one loaded with Vista...
