I'm running Vista Home Premium on a brand new Dell 420 with blue-ray DVD drives, 3.16 Ghz duo. I have a new WinDVD 9 Plus Blue-Ray disk. It gets as far as a half geen bar under "Preparing to install files" then it minimizes the Installshield and the hard drive grinds away until I cancel it with the Task Manager. It's listed as "not responding".
A Dell tech tried to run the set-up program on the disk, and later so did I, but it did the same thing. The tech figured it was a basic incompatibility with Vista, like I was trying to load a Windows2000 application or something.
I'm reading some horror stories... and I don't even have the files on my computer to be able to uninstall them yet! Any similar experiences or work arounds. Yeah I have an e-mail into Corel but from what I hear I might as well put a message in a bottle and throw it in a lake.
WinDVD 9 doesn't even get through the install

No, really, that's okay, I'll respond to myself.
After talking back and forth with Corel support and downloading all the Vista updates they suggested I didn't get much closer to a solution (but boy is my computer up to date!). I attempted the WinDVD9 install many times and hit some kind of InstallShield loop every time.
I went to my company I.T. guy to see if the disk would load up on his Vista machine. Of course, it did. He suggested I try hitting Alt-Tab when the program minimizes and stalls to see if there are any background programs running. I tried it and held the keys down for a few seconds to read the logos (I believe Explorer and the InstallShield both showed up). For some reason Alt - Tab gave the install a kick in the butt and it operated normally. WinDVD appears to be up and running fine.
So, if you get in an InstallShield loop hit Alt-Tab. In fact, I'll do that for every computer problem I face from now on... it couldn't hurt. Also, I'll note that although the Corel folks (or those handling the e-mail support) didn't provide the answer (because it was a silly solution) they did have reasonable steps to try and did respond very quickly once I was in the support queue.
