DV Capture Controls Disabled

Post by wcj »

When I try to capture video from my DV camcorder the play, stop, rewind, forward, etc. buttons are all disabled (grayed out). There is no way to control the camcorder. Also, only "Fixed Duration" mode is shown. The "Full DV Tape" mode is never shown.

I am using DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus with a Sony DCR-TRV520 camcorder. My PC is an HP Pavilion Ultimate d4999t running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, Intel Q6700 CPU, 2 GB RAM, 560 GB free disk space, NVIDIA GeForce 8400.

I have completed or verified the following:
1. All DVD MovieFactory patches have been applied.
2. I have more than enough free disk space (560 GB).
3. I am using a firewire cable and connection.
4. I have used Microsoft Movie Maker with this PC with this camcorder and was able to control the camcorder with no problem.
5. These problems do not occur when using this version of DVD MovieFactory on a PC running Windows XP (32-bit).

Before using DVD MovieFactory, check if your computer recognizes your camcorder. It seem that it doesn't.

Turn off the camcorder and connect it via the FireWire connector (the computer should be on).

Turn on the camcorder.

When you do so, a popup balloon should be rise near the computer clock stating that "A new hardware found". After a few minute another balloon should be rise stating that "The device is ready for use".

If you didn't get these two statements, your computer is not recognizing your camcorder and you should turn to Microsoft and/or camcorder manufacturer.

Thanks for your reply.

The camcorder was recognized by the computer. When I bring up DVD MovieFactory it lists "Sony DV Device" in the Source control.

I also have a TV tuner card and when I select "Analog TV" as a source the play, stop, etc. buttons are grayed out.
