Upgrade From Video Studio 7 to Video Studio 11

Post by Webinarman »

Hello,
I purchased my Video Studio 7 a while back but only now have had a chance to look at it in detail and plan to start video blogging soon. I was surprised to see that Video Studio 11 is now available and that "upgrades" are provided on the website. I tried to download the upgrade for Video Studio 8 ( thinking it would update my 7 version ) but it just said "Video Studio 8 is not installed on my PC." Is there anyway I can update my Video Studio 7 version to the latest Video Studio version?
Thank you in advance,
Webinarman

Webinarman,

Sorry, you can't update VS (pick your version) to any newer version. The only thing close to that is being able to update 11+ to 11.5+. Until just recently you could have bought VS11/11.5+ at an upgrade price, but since VS12 should be hitting the streets sometime soon, it seems the upgrade pricing has been discontinued. Hopefully, when VS12 comes out they'll reinstitute the upgrade pricing, but who knows what Corel's policy will be.

Hope this helps,

Hello thanks for the reply.
I thought that this - http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs.htm was meant to mean that you could update your version?
Are the higher versions ( eg Video Studio 11) much better than the lower ones( eg version 7? ) I really want to be able to do some quite flashy videos.

Webinarman,

The key word here is update (fixes, etc.), not upgrade (to a newer version).

Well it's been a while since I've been on VS7, but I'll say that quite a bit has changed. What I recommend that you do is download the trial version (yes you can have both VS7 and VS 11 on your computer at the same time), and see if you like it. I'd also read the comparison chart between 11 and 11.5 Plus to see what will suit your needs better. I personally like the plus versions. Some of the more noticeble changes will be what format you can render to.

Hope this helps,

While we got to the correct answer in the end, can I just clarify a little. I Webinarman's question from the start as being 'upgrade' withe 'update' only used in its loose sense... Anyway, yes you can certainly upgrade from VS7, though you can only upgrade to the latest version, not an intermediate version. To do that you would have to buy the whole intermediate package from a software shop.

That being said, upgrades are not free (unlike update patches). Currently, it costs around US$60 IIRC to upgrade to VS11+ (with free updates to VS11.5+). But as Ron has said, VS12 will soon be released, and so we would advise you to hold fire until then.

The other thing about upgrades these days is that you have to have your original VS7 serial number. You will be asked for it when you install the upgrade. I imagine this will be the same for VS12.
