How many pictures on a dvd can one put

First I realize it depends on each timed picture and effects.
Picutes are approx. 250 kb a piece. 640x480, mostly.
Approx. How many would you think I can put on.

2nd question, because I realize music is also information.
Will a dvd w/o music make a difference? Or does it generally
have to to with the length(time) in the program itself?

Like I say I realize there are a lot of variables.

On a single layered,single sided DVD you can get 4.3 GB.If you divide
4.3 GB by the file size of your images that you give you the amount you can use.
The music will depend on the format, ie MP3 ,WAV etc Ken

Not to get nit-picky with you but kb is kilo-bits, whereas KB is kilo-bytes.

At @250KB per image you should be able to fit about 18,035 images (just copied to a disc). Once you render them into a video, it's a whole different ball game.

BTW here's how I did the math:

4.3GB x 1024MB/1GB x 1024KB/1MB = 4,508,876.8KB

And yes, there are too many variables that you left unanswered. Are you just copying the files to disc, making a DVD video standard disc, or creating an MPEG-4 video to burn to disc? And the list goes on.

I just did a 2.5 hr 3500 slide show for a background display at meetings. 5 years of hiking images. Did not resize individual images. No audio. 2.5 sec per image. Quality 80, 4000 kbps. Not something you would want to sit & watch all the way through. Big challenge was getting audio as small as possible. There is no way to say you don't want any. Used mpeg, mono, bit rate 32

Of course you you would have to take into account the method used for joining the two pieces together.

Yes, a bit like adding transitions. Knotting two pieces of string together means a bit is lost from the end of both...!!!
