Grainy and transparent overlay

Post by davidc »

I am new to chroma key video (green/blue screen), and I'm having an issue. I have professional lighting set up and everything seems to look pretty good in the end, but there are 2 specific issues I need to fix:
1. the actual video of me seems grainy and doesn't appear to be very high quality.
2. You can see the main image through my overlay. It seems that I am a bit transaparent.

I am using a sony dcr-sr45 hdd camcorder(not an HD camcorder) , connected to my pc via a usb 2.0 cable.
I am using video studio 11+
I have tried to produce it as a wmv broadband AND WMV hd 720 format. It seems that just looking at it in the VS screen, it looks low quality.

I am trying to make a professional looking promo video, and really need some help.

Thanks!
David

Your camcorder:

System Specifications.

Your camcorder records in MPEG2 and so you should stick to this medium rather than converting to wmv broadband AND WMV hd 720 format whilst editing. What is your intended output - DVD or Web? Either way you convert to the intended output medium after you have made your edits.

Thanks for the info!

I was simply going to file, clicking on insert media into library and getting it straight from the camera. I am now downloading the video to my system and then importing. Still seems a little grainy though.

Question: Is there a better type of medium for recording other than mpeg2 that doesn't cost a whole lot more?

Thanks!

This may not fix your problem, but you cannot accurately tell the quality of the finished project by looking at the playback screen in VS. It always looks lousy.

Instead, minimize VS and go play the outputted video in Windows Media Player (or whatever package you use to view videos). That's the only way to tell the real quality.

Also, if you burn it to DVD, it will look much different when played back on your TV than on your computer. But you probably know that . . .

Good luck,
