Lost CD key - is it retrievable?

Post by amh20 »

I have run into a major headache while transferring a friend's software to his new PC. At some point, he has managed to lose the paper sleeve for his PhotoImpact 12 CD and he had no other record of the installation key. I have tried running system analysis applications like Belarc and SIW to see if the key is recorded in the installation on his old PC, but it seems that it is not. An unsuccessful experiment using my own key during an attempt to install it suggests that it must be stored on the CD, but I'm at a loss to know how to recover it or if it is even possible. If it is not possible, then I suppose that Ulead's staff did a good job!

Is he out by ¢G30 and in need of a replacement copy, or is there a solution? The old PC has not yet been wiped, so if it is retrievable from there, we can still do that. Your assistance is much appreciated.

If the old system is not wiped yet, and XP, open Registry Editor and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact\12.0\Installer.

Look in the right pane for Serial Number...

To open the registry editor; Start>Run, type in regedit.

On the old machine start PhotoImpact then press

and you will see the serial number.
