I see that this issue has been addressed previously, but the answers I read have not led me to a solution. I really, really, really don't want to use the cutesy theme(s) in my slide show. I do, however, want to be able to insert titles and descriptive text.
I've spent quite a bit of time reading the manual - and yet I don't seem to be able to eliminate the 'theme' step! And the minute I click on 'Theme' my slide show is assigned a theme. I understand that I can use the menu and insert a different background, but the theme is not eliminated. And I want the individual photos to be shown in the entire area, not just the little area provided by the theme.
Hope someone can help!

Welcome to the forum runaround,
DVDPS4 is designed around the idea that virtually anyone, regardless of experience, can easily create a pro quality presentation. Rather than leave it up to the user to design from the ground up, it provides themes by default. Still, it's not difficult to change things to your liking. For example, if you want large thumbnails in your menu, browse through the various gallery themes and select one that uses larger images. When you later change the background image, your thumbnails will retain their original size. From there it's just a matter of substituting background music, transitions, etc., and adding your text titles.
If you want more control I'd suggest looking at the demo versions of MovieFactory Plus or (for complete control) VideoStudio Plus.
Good luck!
