Am about to buy the canon HG10 and saw this caution on the canon site:
AVCHD Caution Sheet
Discs containing High Definition movies that have been recorded in the AVCHD format should not be inserted into appliances that do not support this format. This includes standard DVD players and recorders. Discs will not play back properly in non-compatible devices, may become damaged and may even cause appliances to malfunction.
I have an HD TV but am not sure about the DVD I use. Also I copy my holiday DVDs to friends we go on holiday with. I wondered if once the AVCHD was edited by VS11+ it would be OK to play on a standard DVD and TV.
Many thanks. Krystyna
Would like advice before a purchase an AVCHD Camcorder

No, You can't render and burn it as AVCHD. You would convert it to the kind of mpeg2 that works on a normal DVD. It will still look pretty good, but not like HD. You can show AVCHD on a HDTV, IF you have a player that will play that kind of file or you write it back to the camera. Otherwise, the easy solution is to write a standard DVD and enjoy. Later, we will have cheaper players and burners.
