Photoshop plugins
Anybody having success using photoshop plugins in PI 10?
Some Photoshop plugins work; some don't.
Are you having having problems? Looking for some?
Check

and look under Freeware>"Works" plugins to download some interesting stuff that works in PI 10. Links to others can be found on the main page.

NEGATIVE, NADA, NO ADOBE PLUG-IN WORKS
I have been using Ulead since version 3 and my Adobe Plug-ins always worked, until I upgraded beyond Ulead 6 and Adobe 7. I have many hundreds of Adobe plugins, I can get only one to work.
I have continued to upgrade both products in hopes plug-ins would work, THEY Don't! Except some very old Filter Factory, which I no longer use.
Ulead says, "Sorry they are trying to make the product better."
Adobe says they have changed the plug-in format, which means they are tired of people using their plug-ins in other programs.
Ulead hasn't been able to make the product conpatible with all of the file format changes. Other programs are having the same compatibility problem.
I have not as of this time and date been able to find a work around, other than using a graphic program that will load the Adobe Plug-ins, that used to be Paint Shop Pro, which now belongs to Corel. I don't know if the current version is conpatible with the Adobe Plug-ins, as version 6 and 7 used to be.
I have five of the most popular graphic programs and just do the dance around between programs until I get what I need.

There are compatibility problems, but I have a few plugins I use that work very well. One thing I did find I was dong wrong in a couple instances, was just copying the .8bi file to the plugins folder. Some plugins need to have .inf files and .tmp files to work correctly. I have found that the best way to get them to work is to install the software directly to the plugins folder.

When you say you installed the software to the Plug-in's folder, do you mean Third-Party Adobe Plug-ins?, or Ulead?
The Plug-ins that came with the Adobe Photoshop software, may require a DLL file Adobe uses when using their Plug-ins with other software? In my case using the Adobe DLL makes no difference. No matter how many times I uninstall Ulead, or reinstall on a clean drive, the results are the same. I get one of two ERRORS; If I don't use the Adobe DLL placed in the Ulead Folder, I get, "Insufficient Memory to Load Plug-in." If I place the Adobe DLL, as instructed by Adobe in Ulead, I get, "Unable to Load Plug-in. I have even, in desperation tried switching files of different versions, in hoopes of a match, no go. And, yes I have checked my memory, not one fault in a three pass four hour test.
For two years I have talked to every tech at Adobe, Ulead, and a dozen other companies, scoured the Internet, they continue to tell me this is a problem they are aware of, but know one has a solution that works. I am beginning to think A Microsoft Conspiracy!!
I tried several Third Party conversion programs that guaranteed my Plug-ins would become instantly compatible with any program, Yeah right, didn't work.
If I use some Third-Party Plug-ins, I can get a few to work, but the Plug-ins that came with Adobe Photoshop after version 5.5 and Ulead 8 up will no longer work. Photoshop 5.5 and Ulead 6 were my last working couple.
Only GOD knows why this marriage has been dissolved!

I GOT IT!! Thanks to espirire from another thread.
8BF_Filters - allows your program to load Adobe Photoshop 8BF filters
Note: some older/special 8BFs may require additional system DLLs:
Msvcrt10.dll
Plugin.dll
You will find these two DLL's in an Adobe Photoshop Folder, copy them and place them in the Ulead Plugin Folder along with your Adobe Plugins.
NOTE: This is for using the Plugins that shipped with Photoshop 5, 5.5, and 7. haven't tried other versions of Adobe Photoshop nor have I tried Third Party Plugins.

DAMN!!
I got a whole 1 hours work, before the Plug-ins went south in PI 10, XL has the same problem, and it is on another machine a P 4.
ERROR: 2401
408 Unable to invoke the specified plugin. Your System memory may be low.
With a fresh boot and a gig of mem, it ain't low!! BUT I am!!
Time to get out the Old Packard-Bell and install Adobe 5 and Ulead 6 back on the old clunker.
Maybe the Next Upgrade will be better. My vacation is over this one isn't getting solved.
Back to the hardway of doing things.

My Wife says, You are just like a Pit Bull out of Control! You just can't Give Up!!"
Found another source who says, the DLL's do NOT go in the Ulead or plugin Folder, but go in the Windows\system32\ folder.
Ok Guys and Gals, Lets try this one more time!!
This is for Photoshop 7.01 Plugins to work in PI 10;
This is how it works, get a copy of the mscrvt10.dll and the plugin.dll you find in the Photoshop 7.0 folder and place a copy of both DLL's in the Windows\system32 folder. Place the Photoshop 7 plugins in the PhotoImpact\plugin folder.
After installing the DLL's I tried linking to the Effects Folder in Photoshop, but get the ERROR message, so this dosen't work on my machine. The Adobe Plugins have to be in the PI plugin folder to work for me.
I have gotten this combination to work for several hours, so hope this one is a keeper.

I don't use many plugins, Photo Impact mostly comes with what I need. The few ones I have installed have worked fine. The way I installed them was by during the install process it asked me where the plugin folder of an "adobe photoshop or equivalent program" is. I pointed it to the PI plugin folder and it worked fine.
THis is PI10. I don't have Photo shop. This is with a third party plugin.
Hope that helps.

No matter what I do I can't get Adobe plug-ins to work in PI 10, but I sure have learned a lot trying to find a solution. Maybe the following will help others:
According to MajorGeeks.com
There are 5 different DLL files needed to run most filters, plug-ins, and add-ons with your graphics program that are NOT always installed or are not located in the proper folder for your Operating System. They are as follows:
msvcrt.dll
msvcrt10.dll
msvcrt20.dll
msvcrt40.dll
plugin.dll
If after installing a plug-in or filter AND once you have restarted your graphics program you get a message saying your program is unable to load it, place the above listed DLL's in the Folders as follows:
Windows 98: All DLL's go in the C:\Windows\System Folder.
Windows ME: The plugin.dll goes in the C:\Windows Folder AND into your graphics program plugins Folder. The msvcrt10.dll goes in the :\Windows\System Folder.
Windows 2000: All DLL's go in the C:\WINNT\System32 Folder.
Windows XP: All DLL's go in the C:\Windows\System32 Folder.
NOTE: Windows XP should contain previously installed versions of msvcrt.dll, msvcrt20.dll, and msvcrt40.dll. If you intend to replace these files, make sure the versions are the same as msvcrt10.dll and msvcrt20.dll each have two different versions. AND if not, rename the installed files with the extension of *.OLD just in case things don’t go right and you have to turn back the clock.

More on Adobe Plug-ins and PhotoImpact.
Adobe says they changed their Software Development Kit just before they issued Photoshop 7, and again in Photoshop CS, to accommodate the new Win XP API formats. Also stated was the fact that Photoshop 7 plug-ins are not compatible with CS, and vise-versa. Again, they state that some plug-ins, in version 7 will not work with previous versions of Photoshop because of the SDK changes.
Ulead says little just that some plug-ins may not work. A private source indicated Ulead made the same changes to its software to also conform to Win XP. However, they used a different programming language, and port PI. Basically corresponding versions of Photoshop and Ulead should work together, but different plug-ins from different versions may not. There is little that can be done about it.
Concerning Third Party plug-ins, make sure the plug-in was designed to work with PhotoImpact, as contacting some of those Plug-in creators, “they weren’t concerned if their plug-ins worked with any other program than Photoshop.”
I have filter plug-in software, but when I try to create a filter in PI 10 I get, ERROR: Host Program is not Photoshop Compatible.
So, if it works, your in-luck, if you’ve tried everything and it doesn’t work, you’re out-of-luck. If by the grace of GOD anyone finds a solution, let me know!!
