I notice that when I save or save as an image, there's a drop down menu containing tons of different file formats. Is there any way to customize this? I know I will never save a Hays or Kodak Flash Pix ...
So, I go to Preferences->Open & Save and uncheck List all file formats in the Save As File dialog box, thinking that should solve my problem. But now of course, saving the image as a "Gif" is no longer available and I definitely need that.
I thought I had found the solution because, in the same option screen you mentioned, and besides unchecking the "List all..." option, we can also select exactly which file formats we want to be displayed (the whole list is available there, with check boxes next to them). However, they don't stick.
Actually, I'm having 2 different problems:
1) Whether I check or uncheck the "List all file formats in the Save As dialog box" option, PhotoImpact (X3) lists ALL formats regardless, even though this particular option does stick -- it seems to have no effect whatsoever on my system, even after restarting PhotoImpact.
2) After I unchecked the "List all" option, and then checked several additional file formats (by default, only .GIF and .PNG are checked in that box), they are unchecked again next time I look in the Preferences, whether I restart PI or not, and except .GIF and .PNG.
I'm using PhotoImpact X3 on Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
Are you also using PI X3 and Vista, Desha? Is anybody else having the same problem under Vista?
Anyway, there definitely seems to be a problem with those preferences for me... I wonder if launching PhotoImpact as admin would make those preferences stick (even though I only have 1 admin account on my system, I know some programs need to be run as admin to make certain modifications).
This is not a Vista thing. I have PI X3 installed on XP, and it is present here too. In fact I don't think they have a way to set what file formats appear in the Save As options.
I've checked this in versions 11 and 12, which behave the same. So it is not something new with X3.

Well, they do have a way to set what file formats appear, (that's what the first two posts were talking about!) but it's never worked, and never been fixed. In other words, it's a BUG.

Right, I was wondering about that too. Why would they have that option available if there's no way to actually do what it's for?
I didn't say that it was suppose to act that way. It seems that they don't... I also just pointed out that the behavior has been the same since VS11 that I could check...
