If burning to VCD is my target ....

Post by Banji Abereoje »

Hi all,

If my end target is to burn VCD, how best can I capture from camcorder to PC & what setting do I adopt to get a good VCD output, atleast close to commercial quality we buy in stores.

I captured a 5mins video via firewire to PC: the size being 1GB+. The quality of playback looks good on PC, although the video is not as sharp as it appears on my cam LCD. It looks soft.

However, I retain the video property being DV type1.... etc. but when I (create disc) to make VCD, the quality drops. There is a smoke-like effect around the object and the video quality is not sharp as said before.

Pls what setting do I need to achieve this. I know DVD is the ultimate but for now I want to get the best out VCD first.

Thanks in advance.

Your camcorder LCD is much smaller than your PC monitor so it will look much sharper on the camcorder than your PC monitor. When you burn your VCD the video will be converted to mpeg which is a quality loss compared to DV. VCD is pretty much gone, I would jump straight to DVD, your footage will look much better and be more universally playable.
