Movie factory 6.0 (MOV files)

Post by Dave W »

I have downloaded the TBYB version of MF6.
I am trying to find a programme that will very efficiently create a DVD from MOV files from my Panasonic SLR camera.
Could someone PLEASE tell me how to succeed in this exercise.
Everything goes well and I've even managed to get to the 'successful' box at the end. The DVD appears to have a track imprinted on it but there is no data whatsoever. I have tried most forms of media including, DVD+RW., DVD-RW.
I'm not wildly enthused about shelling out over a hundred bucks for something that cannot burn a 'simple' DVD.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply.
I download direct from the camera via USB into an 'E' drive folder where I store all my images and MOV files.

I think you need to re-read Steve's post, follow the links. There's still more info we need in order to provide any meaningful help..

I have a Kodak digital still camera that records video, and places it inside the "MOV" file container. I'll guess that the Frames sizes and Codecs are different than what your camera uses. So I don't want to suggest a method or workflow, not knowing...;)

It's not unusual to run across a format (or format variation) that Corel (or other A/V program) can't handle. The more-compressed formats (MOV, DivX, MPEG-4) seem to cause the most trouble. These formats are fine for watching on the computer, but they can be a pain to convert or edit. (Of course, once you find the programs/procedures that work with the files from your camera, things should get a bit easier.)

You'll probably need to use a 3rd-party program to convert your file to DVD-compatible MPEG-2* before bringing it into Movie Factory.

SUPER (FREE!!!) is a "universal" conversion program. You can look at one of the Movie Factory Project-Templates to find the settings (resolution, framerate, bitrate, etc) for a DVD-compatible MPEG-2 file. SUPER has got me out of a jam a few times.

SVCD 2 DVDMPG is another FREE program that claims to convert almost any file to DVD- compatible MPEG-2.

The makers of SVCD 2 DVDMPEG also make SVCD 2 DVD (~ $40 USD) which they claim will convert almost anything to DVD. (With this program, you wouldn't need Movie Factory.)

* MPEG-2 can sometimes be "difficult" to edit. The best format for editing is actually AVI/DV (13GB per hour from a MiniDV camera). But, this requres another conversion to MPEG-2 (for the DVD), and it requires different conversion software. (As far as I can tell, SUPER creates non-standard AVI/DV files.)
