compression help!

Post by ejskater16 »

I have a pretty big mpeg2 file that I captured from a DVD player using a USB2.0 capture device... and I would like to convert it into as small as possible Quicktime file so that I could send it to someone with a Mac. I can get it from 200MB mpeg into a 60MB mov, but it would be preferable if I could get it down smaller, maybe to 20MB. What is the best compression settings to use with such a conversion? As always, thank you very much for any help!

Are you using Quicktime Pro for this? Use their native MPEG4 codec. Lower resolution, audio KHZ and quality settings. Play with these settings until you're happy.

Example:
320x240
22 KHZ
Quality 60%

You could also use Windows Media Encoder to create a WMV file. Quicktime player can play these too.
