ConvertX dated?

Post by Byron B. Carrier »

I wanted to get more video editing capabilities than the WinDVD program provides. Vegas Movie Studio/DVD requires a firewire and at least 800 MgHz processor. I'm using an AMD 650 processor and have the Plextor ConvertX with a USB. My camera is still Hi8 and I have lots of old analog tapes to convert. My next camera will have firewire and I'm open to adding a firewire card in my computer. What capture device would you recommend, or should I just fix the dark screen problem (last post to the forum) and use my current system? (I querried Vegas on whether that program could use the captured .mpg files from the computer for editing, assuming the 800 MgHz was primarily for capture and that my 650 would suffice, but they simply replied that I should go to a firewire level capture device (that the files would be smaller too). So, use current system (assuming I can fix the dark screen), upgrade the converter and/or computer, or some other converter than the one I have? Thanks.
