type 1 and 2 not playing nice

I've copied some footage from a non-protected DVD, edited, and saved as dv-avi type 2.
Unfortunately, MSP7 hates this type 2 on the timeline (sitting along with my regular dv-avi type 1) and refuses to render a wmv from it with these mixed formats.
I've tried saving the whole project as type 1 and even type 2 but it hits something on the final wmv render.
Any tips on correcting?

workaround was to drop a clip on the end
the clip was 10 seconds of the dvd dv-avi which throws the whole vbr sample off...including my dv-avi...tsk tsk
