I've been around since PI 5 and was always very satisfied, but:
X3 Screen Capture does not work in Vista or in Vista SP1.
When using the screen capture (selected area) , the crosshair appears and PI X3 freezes. I can move the crosshair but nothing else works.
I have to kill X3 in the task manager.

I have always wandered why people bother with those screen capture programs. What I do and works on Windows 98/ME/2K/NT4/XP/Vista is:
To capture the entire screen, press the [PRTSC] key on the keyboard.
To capture the active window press the [CTRL] and [PRTSC] keys at the same time.
This places the image in the Windows Clipboard and now you can paste it into whatever application you are using, PhotoImpact, Photoshop, MsPaint, Microsoft Word etc.

ALT+PRTSC and CTRL+PRTSC both work with my boxed copy of PI X3 on a Vista Home Premium SP-1 laptop. I would add that, when new, this computer had some sort of magnifier/copy utility installed which might have been quite good if not so annoying.. Some how or other I managed to make it disappear, and am not sure if it was an MS utility or not.klowther wrote:To capture the active window, I believe it is ALT+PRTSC.
Hope that helps.

Alt+PrtScn worked, thank you!
I can still see why some people might prefer using a specialized screen capture program though, as they offer more than just 2 options (full screen or active window). For instance capturing an open menu, fixed-size area, or selected area. It seems more convenient to be able to do those things without having to edit anything afterward. At least it is for me.
In case this might be useful to anyone, I use a small freeware program called MWSnap, which works fine on Vista.
