Making a long HD project manageable without loss

Post by chris_huggett »

I'm editing about an eighty minute HD project together. There's already 200 video clips in the timeline and I'm only 40 minutes of project time built. Opening the project takes a long time, do I :

a) Split the project into multiple sub projects, and later insert one into the other somehow.

b) Render the project as an mpeg, then insert that mpeg into a new project, to minimse the number of clips (but probably lose quality). It captures in MPEG2, so is that the only choice for this sort of partial rendering ?

c) put up with the fact that it takes a long time to open the project !

I'm capturing from a Sony HDV, off tape, onto Videostudio 11.5+.

Are you using Smart Proxy? It might help if it isn't already enabled.

I would start thinking about splitting things up into episodes

see this thread.... http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=30545

It has conversations as to an approach you may want to try.
