Go to Windows Updates and do ALL the updates you find there, you may have to visit the site several times and restart the computer several times before your done. Keep going back until there are no more updates. During this process you will find several updates to NET framework. If this doesn't fix your problem make sure there is nothing running on your system related to the DVD drives. You may want to go to task manager and shut down as much stuff as you can before running VS. Hope this helps.

And do NOT attempt uninstalling .Net Framework. Many different programs depend on it to work properly or work at all. I was in fact going to suggest simply reinstalling .Net Framework 2.0 since the .dll file is specifically related to that... But finding any updates to .Net Framework is a good idea.

Well I have gone through the Windows Update iteration several times, downloading and installing more than a dozen High-Priority and Optional software and hardware updates, re-starting as required. One of theupdates was Microsoft .NET Frmaework 3.0 and Service Pack 1 for same. I fianly go t to the point where there were no more Windows Updates for my computer.
The short story is that I still get kicked out of VS11+ the same way after I click Create Disk. I am stumped. I can do all the editing in VS11+ just fine and have several projects ready to Create Disc from Video Files I have already created in VS11+. But I have no way to do the authoring and burning in VS11+.
Are there any more things that I should try?
Do I have any other options to take my VS11+ editing .avi or .mpg files and create menus, chapters and burn DVDs?
Thanks for all the previous help and suggestions.

Sorry, but I am stumped too!
The only thing I can suggest now is to take your DVD compatible mpeg-2s (Share > Create Video File > DVD) and use a program like Nero to actually burn them to DVD. Nero now has a decent selection of menus, and I have only recently learned, it also has an equivalent to SmartRender. But of course, you have to have Nero already, or something like Roxio Easy Disc Creator suite which can do the same thing...
But if you have similar problems there with the burning, then it is obviously something more fundamental than VS...

I don't think you mentioned, but I assume you have success in burning a DVD with the software that came with the computer/burner. Could you post a screen shot of task manager showing all processes running. You may have to expand the task manager window to do this. I assume as well that all the software related to the DVD drive is up to date, Roxio, Nero or whatever else you have. Also, iTunes has also been known to cause problems with DVD/CD drives as well if you happen to have this installed.

I tried doing a System Restore on my computer back to a date when I was still able to use the Create Disc function. Having done that, I tried to start VS11+ but nothing at all happened. I was hesitant to install it again at that point in case that would affect my reversing that System restore back to the presentt. Maybe I will try that.
Something that I noticed in Windows Explorer is that my two DVD drives (D and E) show as "DVD-RW Drive" when they are empty. When I put in a blank DVD +R or +RW disc (which I have used for years), the description changes to "CD Drive". I have not paid attention to that in the past so I don't know if that has always been the case. But I get dumped out of VS11+ when I click on Create Disc with a blank in the drive or with the drive empty. I have peformed "Update Driver" on both drives - they aleardy have the latest - as well as uninstalling/installing them and disabling/enabling them with no difference in the Create Disc problem.
I will post a screen shot of the processes running when I try Create Disc as soon as I can figure out how to do that.
I'll be back....

In addition, I have re-installed the versions of Nero (Variations of Version 6) that I received with the drives but they don't accept the .mpg file I created in VS11+.
Using Nero or something similar, I will also try copying a previously produced DVD to a blank just to see if that will work.
(But first I need to take the snow tires off my truck....).

The fact that Nero won't accept your mpeg-2 is perhaps significant. If it is a standard mpeg-2, then Nero should accept it. This in turn implies perhaps that some corruption has entered into the file. Can you give us the properties of it please (right click on it within VS).
Will it even play in a software media player, like Windows Media Player of Nero's Showtime or a program like PowerDVD or WinDVD?

Let us diagnose if the problem is your DVD Burner or the Software.
Try burning to a hard drive folder instead of to a disc.
Does the program still crash?

If the program does not crash
then you either have a problem with the batch of blank discs or the burner.
a. try a different batch of discs.
b. try updating the firmware for the DVD burner.
If it still crashes
Then you have one of the following faults.
a. Problem with VideoStudio. - I think this is unlikely because you have previously mentioned re-installing it.
b. Problem with the operating system - try my troubleshooting link.
c. Problem with the video file - try creating a small test project using different source material.

Thanks for these replies.
Ken, I will check out the Nero situation in just a little bit and post back.
Steve, I cannot even get to the screen you show. I wish I could get that far. Instead, I start VS11+. From there I click directly on the Share tab (with or without a file in the timeline). In the Share screen I click on the Create Disc icon (or in the Tools drop-down menu I click on Create Disc). After that and a short wait, I get the "Ulead VideoStudio has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." message and I have to close it.

Right we are getting somewhere!!
It is NOT one of the following problems.
DVD Burner
Source Files
It is NOT a conflict with Nero or some other CD/DVD burning problem.
It must be a problem with one of the following:
VideoStudio
Windows
Computer hardware problem.
To proceed further please follow the guide I created

The same thing happened with my LG burner, and it turned out to be a bad batch of disks. As soon as I bought new ones, the drive showed up as a DVD burner again. Can't do any harm to clean the laser either.babyleon wrote:

But if you read his last post he can't even get to the burn stage. He is crashing when he clicks Create Disc.

First, my sincere thanks to all of you for continuing to try to help a moron like me through this problem. The service you provide is nothing short of remarkable and I doubt you ever get the credit you really deserve for putting so much of your time into it. Thank you so much.
Now, my Progess Report (such as it is):
Ken, I probably just did not understand the Nero process when I first tried it. In going over it again, I started Nero Vision Express 2, added the .mpg file I created in VS11+ and successfully burned it to a Sony DVD+RW 1X-4X disc in my Pioneer burner. I did not add any chapters or menus or any other bells/whistles and that process took about 20 minutes to burn, the stages being Transcoding, Writing Tracks and Writing Lead-out.
The resulting DVD plays in my stand-alone DVD player and it plays with Nero Showtime on my computer but for some reason I cannot get it to play with Windows Media Play on my computer. The first time I tried to burn a DVD using this program, when I had to determine to which drive I wanted to burn, it showed me a choice of 4 drives (I only have two), Pioneer CD, Atapi CD, Pioneer DVD and Atapi DVD. I chose the the Pioneer DVD for the successful burn. I am going to try the same with the ATAPI drive next but from this I think tells me at least one of my DVD burners (the slower one) is working.
Steve, I tried the System Restore again, back to the end of January, and when I then tried to start VS11 I got an error message "Ulead Video Studio An internal error has occurred (Error Code = %s) (15033:0:1)". When I cleared that and tried to start to program again, nothing happened. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I was hesitant to re-install VS11 at that January point for fear that I would not be able to reverse that System Restore back to the present if needed. Would that indeed be the case? I have subsequently reversed that system restore back to the present without making any changes to the older restored system.
I have unistalled/re-installed VS11+. I have run the Windows System File Checker with no result. I have run ChkDsk with no result. I looked at the Error Log and there are a few errors but I don't know what to make of them - they seem to be related to the termination of the VS11 program when I click Create Disc. I have run a Registry checking program, Uniblue Registry Booster 2, and fixed the many errors that it found. I have re-installed the drivers for my DVD burners wiith the result that the present drivers are the latest ones. I am a bit afraid of msconfig as it looks like running it might delete my System Restore Points, not that they have been of much help so far....
Paul, I am using the same DVD blank supply that I have successfully used for a long time, from the same packages, two differentt kinds and two diffferent burners and it looks like at least one of the burners is working. But I remain open to all possibilities.
As it stands now, I am still getting kicked out when I click Create Disc and the Error Signature is the same one I posted earlier.
I will keep playing around with variations of all of this.
