Create Disc shut down

Post by babyleon »

I haven't tried to create a disc in a few months but now I am having problems.

I start VS11+ and click on Share, then Create Disc. Then after a few seconds I get the message that "Ulead Video Studio has ancountered a problem and must shut down" and I have to bail out. This is even without loading any projects but the same thing happens when I have a project in the timeline.

I have installed the most recent version of DirectX.

If the recommendation is to re-install VS11+, will I lose all the libraries I have created?

Thanks.

It is correct that you can lose all the libraries when reinstalling. However all you need to do before reinstalling is copy the library files to another location on your system. Then once you have reinstalled, copy them back.

On a WinXP machine the Library files are found at C:\Documents and Settings\UserNameHere\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\11.0.
The Files to copy are:
  • VS_Audio.dat
  • VS_Image.dat
  • VS_Title.dat(If you have customized any titles, or added any not included with the program)
  • VS_Video.dat
  • VS_Flash.dat (if you have added any flash animations not included with the program)
So DirectX did not fix the problem for you... :? Did you install the Update and Power Pack? http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs_ftp.htm

To get a clean start Try doing a complete un-install/re-install. Ulead programs leave a lot of files behind. So just doing a simple add/remove programs from the control panel and then re-installing may not correct some issues. Instructions can be found here : Re-installation of Ulead Products

Once you have the program completely removed, install VS's main program, and the Contents Pack. Then install the Patch, followed by the Power Pack. Do not install the Hot Fix unless you had problems with the AVControl SDK while installing the main program.

Thank you for that valuable information on preserving libraries. I use them extensively and would hate to lose them.

Can you tell me if re-installation of VS11 will lose any of the projects or project information I have created?

Thanks again.

The safe thing to do is to back up any projects before doing a re-installation
If you save to the default folder it is found in [file] [Preferences]

On a similar note I received this Email
Can you help please some how I have managed to delete my video filters on ulead Video Studio 11. Do I have to delete the whole programme and reinstall??
Also is there any way I can select all clips when I want to delete the Audio on a whole video as the sound quality is really bad.
Many Thanks
Sue
Once a gain a reminder about Private Messages and Emails to Forum Staff

If you DELETE the files mentioned by Ron (Vidoman) earlier in this thread, then VideoStudio will create new copies using the original default settings.

To select all of your clips, click the first clip, hold the SHIFT key and click the last clip, all clips will then be selected. Similarly to select various clips instead of holding the SHIFT key hold the CTRL key and then clcik each clip you want to be selected.

Not sure if you can mute several in one go, but you can create a video file from the share tab using "Video Only"

First, my apology if I have not communicated appropriately. I try to always post my questions on the appropriate forum and did not intend to send any personal e-mails if that is what happened. I will watch this more carefully in the future..

I am a little confused now on the protection of libraries when re-installing VS11+. If, as suggested by Vidoman, I copy the .dat files to another directory, am I indeed copying all of the clips including those in Custom folders I have created? Or do I have to manually go to each folder, select all the clips in that folder and copy them somewhere else?

With respect to protecting project information, I have video files and related VSP project files on many different external hard drives and making backup of all of them would be difficult. Will a re-install of VS11+ only affect the actually program files on my C drive or would it reach out and affect projects on other drives? I don’t think this would be the case but I don’t want to find out the hard way…..

Thank you.

Sorry for an confusion - the private email I received was from someone named sue spring - I can find no record of this person having a Forum Membership. Her query was so closely related to this thread that I included it in my response to save creating two similar threads.

Regarding saving your project files. You would need to back up the working folder which defaults to
C:\Documents and Settings\your name\My Documents\Ulead VideoStudio\11.0\
Any other files on your hard drive(s) will remain intact.

I tried the re-installation procedure a couple of times, deleting all of the folders/files as required, uninstalling, regedit review (no appropriate files there), install, install updates, etc. After re-installing just the VS11 program it still shut down when I click on create disc. Then I deleted/removed again and installed the VS11 program along with the content pakage and the updated VS 11 Plus Power Pack. After doing that, when I click on Creat Disc a list pops up with "AVCHD, HD DVD, Blu-Ray, DVD, VCD, SVCD". When I click on DVD, I wait for about 20 seconds then get dumped out again with the "Ulead Video System has encounterd a problem and must shut down" message.

I don't know if it is related to anything but now I can't get any audio hwhen I capture new video or play back video that I uploaded previously that I know has audio.

I will try the re-install process again. Any other suggestions? Are there other patches I should install? I was afraid to try the HotFix thing becaues it was noted that it cannot be uninstalled.... True?

I am using the ESD version of VS11 and even downloaded that again and used it for re-installation - no difference. I had two DVD burners and both of them show as functioning properly in Device Manager.

Thanks.

I solved the audio problem - when I went to my volume control program in the Accessories/Enterntainment menu and the "Wave" and "CD" volumes had been muted. It was nothing that I had done (intentionally anyway....). Perhaps some of the re-installation procedure affected those settings. If I continue to experience audio problems I will report that again.

(However, I am unfortuately still experiencing the VS shut down after I click on Create Disc. I will continue to experiment with re-installation.)

I am still getting dumped out of VS11 when I click on Create Disc.

This is the message I get:

Ulead VideoStudio has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

And in case it might provide a cklue of some sort, this is the "Error Summary":

AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 11.0.0.0 ModName: msvcr80.dll
ModVer: 8.0.50727.1433 Offset: 0000ed53

I am open to just about all suggestions with the exception of re-installing XP......

As you may or may not realise, the problem file (msvcr80.dll) is not a Video Studio file, but a Microsoft file normally associated with .Net Framework 2. Something may have gone wrong with your original file but you could Google and will see there are various sites where you can download a copy of it. You could try replacing the original file, though I would save the original file somewhere else on my computer in case the new version causes more trouble than it is worth!

Thank you Ken! I did not realise that as I am not very smart! I found that file in several places on my C drive and will play around with moving them one by one to a different drive to see if it will make a difference. At least now I have another avenue to explore. I will report back on my results (if my computer still works....).

Thanks again.

Does the msvcr80.dll file belong somewhere in a Ulead directory?

Not on my computer at any rate. Like you, I have quite a few iterations of it scattered over a couple of drives (in fact, 20 versions in all!!) They are mostly associated with Adobe products, with the next most common after that being DivX related programs. Then (interestingly) 2 iterations associated with my ATI graphics card drivers and one each for Camtasia and Video ReDo. But nada for Video Studio or indeed any Ulead/Corel product.

Interestingly I found 1 Corel product that does use that driver file; PaintShop Pro Photo X2.

I am running out of options. I have gone through the re-install procedure quite a few times with quite a few different variables but the result is the same: Click on Share tab, click on Create Disc, get the encountered a problem messsage and get dumped out.

I purchased a Registry fixing program from UniBlue and ran that. It found lots of problems and fixed them but it made no difference in the Create Disc error.

If it is indeed related to my problem, I see in my "Add/Remove Software" list in Contorl Panel that there are three Microsoft .NET programs:

Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB928366)
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1

Any ideas on what might happen if I remove any/all of these programs?

If all else fails and I have to buy/install a different program other than Video Studio to be able to return to burning DVDs, will any of my VS projects be usable?

Thanks for any help or advice on how to proceed. I am baffled......
