"Unspecified Error" when burning VideoStudio11 Plu
I am using VideoStudio 11 plus. Program will not complete the DVD burning process. My burner works with other programs. VS 11 gets about 5 minutes into a 38-minute project and either just crashes or says "Unspecified Error" and stops. I have uninstalled and re-installed VideoStudio 11. Will you help me track down the problem or suggest a know fix for this? The program has burned my work successfully up to this point. Thanks in advance.

Did you actually reach the point where VideoStudio has begun to burn to the disc or was it still in the early stages where it was creating your DVD Menus and the DVD structure. Have you tried burning to a hard drive folder?

Does it only stop with this particular project, or with others as well?
Can you burn the problem project with other software e.g. Nero?
Did you, after editing, go directly to the burning module (Share > Create Disc > DVD) and insert the project file? Or did you first create a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 from the project (Share > Create Video File > DVD)?
Then after you produce your new mpeg-2, you go to File > New Project. Don't worry about giving your new project a name. The objective is just to clear the timeline of your current project.
Once that is done, you select Share > Create Disc > DVD. The burning module will open. Use the Add Media button at the top to insert your new mpeg-2 in the burning timeline. Then go to the middle of the three icons in the bottom left of the burning screen. There is a little box beside the words 'Do not convert compliant mpeg files'. Make sure that box is ticked (it usually is by default). That way, your already compliant mpeg file will not be re-encoded. Then build your menus and burn.
This workflow was developed because a lot of people who jumped straight to the burning module after editing had problems in the burning process.
One other little thing you might want to look at is in the menu creation stage in the burning module. When you open the burning module (Share > Create Disc), you first insert your video in the burning "timeline". If you want to add Chapters, then click the Add/Edit Chapters button. Then you click next, and the page where you choose a Menu template appears. Once you have selected a template, you click on the Edit tab on the same page to select background music, change the background photo etc.
Down in the bottom left corner of the Edit page, though, is an innovation in VS11, and I have found that it slows down my burning stage enormously, and even brought it to a complete halt. Now I never use it.
There are two icons, one above the other, labelled Menu In and Menu Out. Using them is supposed to animate the transition from the menu to a selected video clip. You will see that the Menu In icon is disabled by default (circle with diagonal line through it). But the Menu Out button is enabled. And this was the culprit. Click on the icon and it brings up a choice of animations. Choose the disabling one identical to the default for Menu In. Then proceed to burn.

Same problem with VS11 plus
Hello,
i had already opened a case with U-LEAD (during takeover)
concerning the same behaviour. Due to personal busy situations i couldn't follow up the problem myself earlier.
I have the following seen... trying to create a DVD using VS11 with picture show and partially videos. Whatever i try to create ISO or DVD burning it fails with the famous UNSPECIFIED ERROR and it never reaches the burning state. Even Vista SP1 didn't solve it.
Now i have found something interesting... I saved all the projects in the VS10 format and than started VS10 ...
Believe it or not the project was completed using VS10 on both ISO and DVD without any UNSPECIFIED ERROR.
Does this give the support team an idea???

Welcome to the forums.
It is interesting that the same material worked with VS10 but gave an error message with VS11. Did you double check all of the settings to see if there are any differences between the settings in VS10 and VS11.
Did you invoke "Do not convert compliant MPEG files"

Did you try to create our DVD using pre-rendered video files or were you using the project file from the editing stage?

Answers from me
Hello,
i tried it again to ensure i used your setting..
Do not convert was set ...
i used the +VSP to add the already created scenes
It is my understanding that the files after being saved in Project are not rendered.. correct?? If so, i am just using the project files.
After selecting next i build my menus and could not see this area anymore.
It is also no differnce if i try to burn directly or to create an ISO.
All files are identically ... opened in VS11 .. saved as VS10 ..
opened the first project in vs10 and than added the other VS10 projects.
Happy re-thinking.... and
best regards

Problems like this have caused users to develop what we call the Suggested Workflow.
When you are done editing go to Share>Create Video File and create a DVD-compliant MPEG-2 file.
Clear the timeline.
Go to Share>Create Disc and instead of inserting a VSP (as you were doing), choose Insert Media File and insert the MPEG-2 you created.

Ok.. but this still does not explain why it works with VS10 .
I am not a profi in Video editing but what i could/can do with 10 i can not do with 11. ??
This is like owning an Edsel which drives forward only.. and the next is a mustang which only drive sideways ... or ?
By the way.. i tried for sure to do so.. Result:
Archiv can not be loaded 19351:3: no matter which of my fiiles i tried to convert to MPEG2....
sorry.....

Ok, we need to go back to the beginning.
What are the properties of your clips?
What are your project properties?
What are your burn properties?

Try doing it anyway - I never use a VSP in the authoring stage.Diamond wrote:Ok.. but this still does not explain why it works with VS10 .

OK perhaps it should work, but for you it isn't. Try the suggested work flow and if it works - it works. No need to have sleepless nights wandering why.
If it doesn't work then as a group I am sure we will all chip in with other ideas and suggestions, you won't know until you try.
VS10 works.. VS11 still gets unknown error...
Hello,
i created VSP's in VS10 and in VS11.5 plus. By the way... here is what i did before:
Captured video from Camcorder...
copied digital pictures to harddisk.
created vsp's ,after full object did not work (as does with VS10) containing
pictures, video parts and background music(pictures only).
All these single VSP session can be replayed one by one.
When i bring them all together for creating menus and burning the ISO or DVD it does not work.
Sorry for being late in replying, but i was kept very busy.
