Capture Crashes
Capture Crashes
Hi Guys
I think I know I'm gonna have to re-install MSP8 but I thought I'd come here first in case anyone has any advice or faced this before and found a solution.
I've been running 'Scan DV Tape' in Video Capture for a couple of my tapes this afternoon. Now nearly everytime I try to use VC it crashes 'loading the video driver' on opening.
If it does open it sees my camcorder but it's stuck on playback and won't allow me to switch to capture mode. I did try opening and shutting 'Scan DV tape' and that allowed me to move to capture mode but when I opened batch capture, it crashed again. I've re-booted and had the PC off for an hour while I was out but it makes no difference.
Any ideas before I uninstall MSP and re-install?

Thanks Steve.
I've tried that and nope, still crashes. It's been a few weeks since I'd last used capture, when all seemed OK, so it'll be a bit difficult going back any further. Any other thoughts or is it the re-install route?

Hi Guys
I've just un-installed, cleaned out the registry and re-installed everything and Video Capture still crashes. It starts 'loading capture drivers' then immediately 'encounters a problem...'.
I've just bought a brand new camcorder with HDV, so it's annoying this has happened now (No, it's not the new one: I've not even tried to connect and save from that yet). I can save via Windows Movie Maker, so it's not a camcorder problem).
Please, anyone out there with any ideas (let me know if you need any more info)? I don't really know what else to try without a full XP reinstall and I really do not want to go down that route as I'm busy using this PC on the full day job at the moment.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, I know how frustrating this can be.
From what you have said it sounds like either the capture driver is corrupt, although since it still happens after a fresh install i doubt this is the case (unless the uninstall does not remove the old capture driver).
Most probably it is conflicting with another driver. Make sure there is no other drivers trying to 'drive' the capture hardware, as it appears they are having an argument and MSP is losing.
I hate to say it but you might be a candidate for a reinstall of XP. Bummer.
Oh, try starting your PC in 'safe' mode and see if it works then. I dont know the key combination to start XP in safe mode, I just hard reset the computer while XP is loading and on restart it gives me the option to start in safe mode. This will only load necessary drivers for XP to function, so you will know if the problem is related to a XP driver.

I notice on the bottom of your posts you seem to have Movie Factory 6+ installed on the computer.
Try to capture video via MF6 and see if that works.
I have a computer that can capture HDV or SD in VS11.5 but not Movie Factory 5 or 6. Movie Factory capture window disappears and goes back to the initial screen when I try to capture HDV. Every thing goes fine when I capture SD video.
I haven't figured out what the problem is, if I find out what th problem is I will let you know.

If you can capture using Windows Movie Maker why don't you stop pulling your hair out and simply capture with that, then import your clips into MSP?

Thanks all
I hope you're wrong Troppo about a full re-install but I have a feeling... Thanks for the safe mode suggestion. I hadn't tried it because I thought it only ran essential drivers. Does anyone know if there are any programmes out there that can detect conflicts?
I agree Jeff, capturing from WMM and importing is the logical thing but when something stops working for no reason I'm always worried its part of a larger problem growing inside. Also, I don't think I can capture HDV via WMM when I finally get around to hooking up the new camcorder (although Tyamada's MF6 suggestion may be a good solution).
It's all bizzare. If I have the camcorder switched on and then open VC, it crashes. If I open VC first and then switch on the camcorder, when it says 'no device is connected', I can get into VC - although I do have to open and close 'scan tape' to actually capture (although it'll crash if I try anything fancy, like batch capture).
I've just been sent some instructions to do a clean un/reinstall, so I'll try that (fingers crossed that'll help me avoid a full XP reinstall.

One other thing you might try - plug the camera in and turn it on without opening up video capture, then right click on My Computer and access properties/hardware/device manager. Find the camera, and then right click it and "uninstall". Once this is done, turn your camera off, turn the computer off (rather than just reboot), start it up again and then plug your camera in. Windows should go through the add new hardware dialog and reinstall the camera drivers.Gra wrote:Thanks all

It's probably worth a shot... I've been able to get flaky hardware working again sometimes by doing this.

Hi Guys
I followed the Ulead/ Corel clean un/ re-install and it seems to be working succesfully again (after one run of video captures anyway, so fingers-crossed). I know this info is available elsewhere on the forum or Corel/ Ulead site, but here it is again to help anyone facing similar problems that may pick out this title from a forum search.:
1. Launch Windows Explorer and go to "Tools > Folder Options > View" to check "show hidden files and folders";
2. Purge/delete all the files in these folders: "C:\Windows\Temp" "C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Local Settings\Temp" (for WinXP);
It is safe to delete all contents of these folders. However, leave any files you can?t delete for now;
3. Delete these folders/directories:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems",
"C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8.0, and
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro\8.0"
4. Go to "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information";
Delete the folder{A6E71574-2126-4E95-816E-32B2411C94BA};
5. Go to Start-->Run;
Type "regedit" then "OK";
6. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Uninstall;
Locate and delete the identity enclosed in curly brackets that corresponds to Ulead Media Studio Pro 8: "{A6E71574-2126-4E95-816E-32B2411C94BA}";
7. Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio";
Delete the folder "8.0";
8. Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio";
Delete the folder "8.0";
9. Close Regedit and restart Windows;
10. Reinstall Ulead MediaStudio 8..."
I hope this may help others.
