MSP 7 SP3 shutdown on XP SP2

Post by davesnapeuk »

I have a problem with MSP7 shutting down with no error message.
If I import a media file (in this case a 4GB AVI) and cut out a few minutes then move the two remaining clips together, then start moving along the remaining clip in the timeline the application shuts down. No error message, no warning, and it loses my work from my last save point.

I had this problem under MSP7 SP2 as well and hoped the SP3 would cure the issue but alas not. :(

I am using AVI file taken in PAL format and using the DVD PAL format.

I have tried this with minimal processes running, have changed sound card and updated intel drivers for my system board (Abit AS8) and updated nvidia drivers for video card (GeForce 5200)

What are your computer specs? Since it's happening when you slide the slider, it sounds like all the instant rendering is flooding the virtual memory.

A disc cleanup and a defrag might solve your problem, although it's more likely that it'll just give you more time before the crash. Save often

i've had very similar problems.. it's annoying, and all i can find to do is what the poster above me said, save a whole lot , defrag and cleanup, and i just try to work VERRRRRRRY slow, so as not to over-run it too bad.

I wonder if he has his MSP perferences set to put its temp and preview files on a driver other than C:.

I put mine, the captures and content on a separate HDD on another cable or interface. That way they don't collide with the system swapfile and cause out of memory problems.

System spec and stuff

System Spec:
Abit NS8 system board with latest BIOS and chipset drivers
Intel P4 3GHz (not overclocked) - Hyperthreading enabled
1GB DDR RAM
80GB UDMA 133 HDD as c: and d:
160GB UDMA 133 HDD as e: and f:
9GB UW SCSI HDD as g:
SATA 120GB HDD as v:

All disks are <60% utilised.

Incidentally, I actually had a shutdown whilst using ULead DVD Workshop 2 the other day. Whilst adding the video to the project, the prgram just closed without warning. This only happens in ULead programs!

NVidia VGA GeForce 5200 (AGP 8x)
All the usual stuff USB2.0, Firewire, RealTek NIC, have tried onboard sound card and SB Live card
Canopus AVDC100 Analogue to DV card (which is superb if you're looking for something to do this)

Windows XP SP2 and all hotfixes and DX9.0c

Perfmon shows CPU not going about 10% during VEditor running even just before it crashes.

Have disabled all startup items and the fault still occurs

MSP settings:
Playback options Performance level = 3
Multithreading enabled = 6
Diasable Audio cache = off

Temp folder is C:\DOCUME~1\DAVE~1.SNA\LOCALS~1\Temp\ (obviously forgot to change that last time I rebuilt my PC cos it used to be on F:
Preview folder is F:\MSP7 Preview Files

I have just experienced the same crash when moving (drag and drop) a video clip in the timeline.

Anyone got any ideas?

Anyone from ULead got an unofficial suggestion?

As has been said in threat "HDV plugin":
"Using the Command Prompt cd to Program Files->Common Files->Ulead Systems->MPEG directory and reregister the 9 .ax files using the regsvr32 command. "

This has also worked for me.
Good luck.
